Depends on your definition of a stretch 5.
Best case would be Usman Garuba although he is only 6'8". The stretch part may take a couple of years.
Not ready to play but has shown the stretch skills is Isaiah Todd.
A more conventional rim protector and rebounder but with stretch 5 potential is Charles Bassey.
Possibly ready to play is Jay Huff. 2nd round projection. |
Thanks. I have a quick look with the players you mentioned. Usman Garuba does look like he has the range but he can't play center at the NBA level with his height. Charles Bassey might be a better fit but not sure how long will it take for him to become a respected 3 points shooter.
I like our current guard rotations and want all Schroder, Caruso and THT back which leaves no minutes for another rookie guard. 3&D wing will be very useful but I don't expect any young player to have a good matchup defensively against elite NBA players such as Booker, KL, KD, etc. We don't have the money to resign Drummond and Gasol might choose to retire. That's why I feel if we can draft a center, it would be very beneficial |
Forgot to mention Filip Petrusev. Probably more what you are looking for.
I would not underestimate Garuba due to his size. |

I like De'Andre Ayton, he's a talented third year dude who has shown flashes of additional offensive upside.
He's also a low usage rim running/putback big man who has seen a huge spike in his TS% the same year CP3 happens to become his team's starting PG. He's an athletic monster at 7'0 250 and averages 2.5 FTAs while playing more than 30 mpg.
If you can't see that Mobley is a better modern big man prospect because he's skinny and Ayton isn't, I don't know what to tell you. _________________ Under New Management

Moody
Keon

NBA moves but not the results, due to balance issues and some awareness, so I don't think it's immediately NBA transferable, hence, I dropped him. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Gotcha. I just don't know how many of these guys return plus value outside of Cade, Mobley, and Suggs on their first contracts, anyway. _________________ Under New Management |

^Yeah Kuminga is more of a project and Phil Handy is the man for it, but he works with the star players more, ya know?
THT I saw ball handling creation, and that goes miles for me, even if the shooting hasn't clicked. I was at least exceedingly hopeful with the 71% finishing around the rim, and that was worth it.
But for early contributors? Aaron Henry as a defender, Duarte as an average NBA shooter, Keon as a defender, etc. Just a lot of these guys have 1 NBA level skill and I haven't found what Kuminga's actually is, and project players I tend to drop. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

The Ringer has a new mock draft up. They have us taking Duarte at 22 with Springer going 23, Garuba going 24, and Butler going 28.
As much as I like Duarte's shooting I would be peeved if they passed on Springer. Like I said before Springer as Memphis pick all over him though. |

I don't know what Kevin O'Connor is doing anymore.
Like, if Lillard played at a bigger school, he would've been a top ten pick after his sophomore season. Davion Mitchell seems like a fine player and a future solid pro, but he had a crazy outlier shooting season after being a bad freshman, having an okay-ish sophomore season after a transfer from Auburn before blowing up as a 22-year-old senior. Imagine Sharife Cooper 2-3 years from now. He averaged (an admittedly inefficient) 20 and 8 as a freshman at Auburn. How much would he tear up CBB at 22 years of age?
KOC calls Sengun "raw," when he's one of the most skilled 18-year-old big men I've ever seen. If the 6'10 C with short arms and limited vertical athleticism is also "raw," why is he being drafted in the lottery??
I could maybe talk myself into Cam Thomas at the Lakers pick, but the lottery?? An undersized volume scorer who doesn't pass or defend? Malik Monk was better in college and we sure see the league clambering to draft the next Monk.
Quickley is "more of a scorer" than Cooper? What Sharife Cooper are people watching?? Cooper scored 37 points per 100 possessions as a freshman while Quickley topped out at 28.5 as a sophomore. Just give in to Cooper as IT4 with near elite/elite passing.
The Duarte selection could make sense in a vacuum for the Lakers and KOC's reasoning about drafting an older player is a common (mis)conception, but no rookie should be expected to be playoff good and if the Lakers were in serious "not messing around" mode, they'd package the pick to try and find veteran help for next season. If they're not going to do that, then who cares about immediate impact over upside at a spot where some talented, misevaluated young players like Springer and Prkacin could be available? _________________ Under New Management

Kevin O'Connor is no evaluator. The Ringer draft section is built for a low activity NBA fan.
Also BVH, BenPf isn't high on Kuminga either. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

I saw his stuff on Twitter and extrapolated unfairly to all of DT. I need to sit and listen to his takes again to give a proper rebuttal lol.
He's a context dependent, raw prospect for sure - Orlando would be a terrible destination for him; Toronto the best - but he's one of the youngest guys in the draft with a clear pro body as a big wing, flashes of pro scoring moves, and he's new to basketball. Jalen Green is a 6'5 twig with a pedestrian 6'8 wingspan who's 9 months older than Kuminga and who also lacks advanced processing skills as a passer or team defender but was a better shooter over a 15 game sample size.
On a positive note, I have Moody at #11 and I think he has a higher floor than anyone not named Cade and Mobley amongst the young draft prospects. _________________ Under New Management |

I could see the Magic going in that direction. It appears most mocks have them taking Suggs or Green, but John Hammond places a high value on length. |

I don't love how some of their young guys have developed so I worry about Kuminga there since he's such a work in progress, but he definitely would appeal to Hammond and would fit a hole for the Magic at SF.
I'm actually rooting for Orlando to get Cade Cunningham at #1. He would unlock a lot of young guys on that roster. _________________ Under New Management |

Now you know why I have Moody ranked so highly, pending health issues.
Jalen I believe more, because of his ability to create unique shots at the rim with outlier body control, at the actual rim. He has *just* enough shooting to keep the drives honest, and one may think that kind of body control makes it easier for skill transference and development too. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Legit good prospect, but I think there's better players at LAL's position. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Over the next 24-48 hours, assume we will get a lot of combine invitation confirmations.

Every NBA team submitted votes for 70 players for the NBA Combine and G League Elite Camp today. Around 100 players will be invited after the tally count to participate in one of the two camps. With the Combine dates pushed back a month, expect quite a few int'l players to attend
