Our problem with Dennis though is the 3 point shot. Really changes the geometry one the court. You have Javon at 40% out there playing better defense, then that's a more suitable backup PG IMO over Dennis. Remember, I like Dennis, but he is a floor spacing negative on a team with AD not shooting well and LBJ's 3 point shot escaping him (and Vando).

That’s true, the 3pt shooting is something to consider. Shro averages twice as many assists tho, and the team is pleased with his defense. We don’t know if the team success would be better with 3pt shooting from Carter than the result we’ve already seen with the assists from Shro. We would have to see how it fit with team chemistry whereas Shro’s fit has already been shown successfully.

Shro avg 12ppg and Carter avg only 8. I just think that we have something that worked and need to be added to, not replaced…could be wrong…just my preference. It would be different if Carter was a 15ppg scorer and matched Shro’s assists but he isn’t and he doesn’t. It too close to call imo to switch.

Rather use the TPMLE elsewhere if the opportunity is available. JHS can probably do the Schro role at 60% -- PoA defender, hit some midrange shots, hopefully hit some wideeee open 3s.

We have bigger holes at e.g. wing and backup C. Granted the backup C market looks like slim pickings, but getting a defensive 2/3 who can hold Jamal Murray types to his playoff averages instead of prime Kobe numbers against us would be huge. Will also be necessary against guys like Devin Booker, Jaylen Brown etc.

I mean Vando was supposed to be that guy except his offense

Not to insult the Kings, Wizards, or Hawks, or any of the last expansion teams, but passing on Shro and expecting a rookie to fill the void as the initial plan is something they would do and is why none of them have sniffed even an appearance in the finals.

I hope the Lakers aren’t becoming that. Shro started in the last game of the WCF and was the starting PG this year more than any other player. He’s not all that and I wouldn’t want to rely on Shro as the full time starter as the initial plan, but bringing him back is how a commitment to going after a championship looks for a historically storied franchise. Passing on Shro for a marginal upgrade like Carter or planning for a rookie to replace him is asking to devolve into one of those losing teams instead of being the Lakers

I know what you mean; however, the Lakers won't have that many opportunities to upgrade the roster. I would genuinely rather just let JHS soak up some backup point guard minutes if it means we can upgrade at the wing where I think we have serious problems (our only real 3 is Vando who got played off the court). I don't love the idea of relying on a rookie either so it's really just a matter of being practical.

Jevon Carter is a nice upgrade imo but the Tim_NBA podcast suggested Aaron Holiday at the vet min which I like better. We just need a 3&D point guard who can credibly guard guys like Ja and Curry; if we get that guy at the vet min, that works better, even if he's not quite as good as Carter.

Lets be actual and factual..We want him because he a "new toy"..a new name. Forget if he even made 3 ppg..Its a new name for us to talk about and dump on when things dont go right..smh. Midas well be honest around here..smh.

Denis is also a fourth quarter player. He was one of the best fourth quarter guys on the team especially with Bron out for those 6 weeks.

I hope we do the following:

Cut loose Beasley for a 2nd rd pick
Cut loose Bamba for a 2nd rd pick
Let D Lo walk in free agency
Keep Reaves
Keep Rui
Keep Dennis
Sign Seth Curry

We do this, and I'm fine with the offseason.

Seeing as the 2023 draft is behind us, for the upcoming season these moves effectively trade Beasley, Bamba and D Lo for Seth Curry.

Last year proved so much for me about who he was as a person

This MAN FOUGHT FOR THE LAKERS damn near harder than any player I have seen. roll your ankle into a taco.. (bleep) it.. I'm a soccer player (bleep).. and goes out and tears up the opposition

I will definitely miss his speed and tenacity and (bleep) YOU attitude towards any opponents.

I wish him all the best and Thank you Dennis for playing for pennies and being a team all-star in attitude and GRIT

That's Tuff

Perfect fit for Toronto. I wish him well there. It will be cold in winter but he's from Germany, so he's used to it.

Would he have taken the Vincent deal to stay if given a player option for the last year? 3yr/33m instead of 2yr/26m? Guess not we’ll never know. Oh well…down grade #2. Prince for BAE instead of TBjr was the 1st downgrade. I wonder how many more downgrades are coming.

How the heck did we overpay for down grades?

Genuinely happy for the guy. Definitely made things right and got his bag. Along with Dwight, another successful Laker redemption story. I remember his Achilles was acting up in the playoffs and it would have been disastrous if he tore it. But he still went all out for us. Be well Dennis.

Ugh, I'm still choked over losing Dennis. I'll miss his tenacity, FT shooting and strong 4th quarter play. The Raps are lucky to have him.
