Somewhat optimistic, but looks more likely were going to flunk out early in the playoffs. Hope im wrong though

Here’s some optimism for you. No one in the NL stands out right now.

Outside of the NL West, who has the best team? Mets? Cubs? Brewere? They’re all suspect.

Yeah, we don’t have the fire this year so far, that’s for sure.

- So many players are having down years compared to last year: Betts, Seager, Pollock, etc.

- We can’t throw out runners this year for some reason.

But, we know the talent is definitely there. And we know alot are coming back from injury. It’s really up to the players though. We need some guys to turn it around offensively. Can Betts be this bad for the entire year? He’s batting .250 coming up on the 1/2 way mark. That might be his career low?

We traded for a .300 hitter, got a .290+ hitter last year who’s regressed to .250 this year. That 12 year contract is starting to look a bit suspect.

Advanced stats adore Mookie. He definitely remains a top MLB player. If anything, he's been fairly unlucky.

Yup, advanced stats love Mookie. It’s probably his defense that’s giving him a positive WAR. His offense has been ass though.

Advanced batting stats love him, too.

This year? Because he’s been pretty ass offensively

Yeah. From Fangraphs (I have a sub):

33rd in WRC (131);
42nd in wOBA;
39th in wRAA;
19th in walk rate
20 lowest strikeout rate
12th WAR

These aren't typical Mookie rankings, but if his name wasn't Mookie, it would be an outstanding season by all counts. Still ++ defensively, + on the basepaths. All this despite many injuries and no rhythm. His slugging has really nosedived this year, as has his BABIP - I would think both are connected to the niggling injuries + lack of rhythm.

Where I'd worry more is the changing offensive environment. Compared to the AL East, the NL West has tougher pitchers and tougher pitching ballparks. The ball's been messed with. He is simply not hitting the ball hard, either - average exit velocity, hard-hit rate, barrel rate all at lows since 2017. And yet he still crushes xSLG and other peripheral advanced stats match with last year.

A couple holes have appeared in his swing. Unusual struggles against lefties have appeared. Pulling the ball more with no results.

So, injuries, working through some things, tinkering with his swing a bit (typical with a struggling player)...and yet still impactful as hell, plus offensively and plus defensively, with a top-down impact on an organization that is matched by few players. Oh, and a ring for a franchise that hadn't seen one in three decades.

I'm still good with Mookie and his contract

Getting no hit thru 5 innings...Our offense has been absolutely pathetic the last four games. The players need to get their heads out of their asses.

The problem for the Dodgers is that they have serious competition from 2 teams this season, all in the state of California. Usually the past couple of years they would just run away from the division and their only serious threats would come in the playoffs.

The Dodgers problem is that they really really suck right now

So barring a miracle tonight (and the miracle here is whether or not we actually get a hit), we’re going to lose four in a row with Urias, Kershaw, Bauer and Buehler as our starters. Sure we’re a bit banged up but that is just utterly ridiculous.

Last time we played San Diego we went into a tailspin and couldn’t hit.

Looks like a repeat of history so far.

Also, we’re being no hit tonight.

We obviously lost this game...the one silver lining is having their pitcher sit on the bench (and maybe get cold) waiting for their rally to finish.

Price needs to buy Bickford something. He left him bases loaded with NO OUTS, and Bickford got out of it, without giving up a run.

Lol, doesn’t matter how cold the opposing pitcher gets. No way we’re going to rally. That would require good AB’s. Who do you think we are? The Giants???

-No hitter with 7 walks. What’s the record?

-only the Dodgers can be no hit and still leave 10 men on base. Amazing.

Well, they took out the starting pitcher...For some reason, a combined no hitter won't seem as bad (not sure why).

It’s only a 4 run game. Is there some kind of unwritten rule where the Cubs need to quit trying? Maybe we can show some anger/passion for some unwritten rules.

I thought getting swept by the Padres was embarrassment enough for them.

I honestly think this team is satisfied with their one ring. I honestly think they came into this season with no fire or hunger to chase another ring.

The Padres seemed hungry from the get go.

Well, at this point, my optimism gets lower and lower. Dont see how seager coming back soon will help. Sad thing to see.

Pads get into dodgers heads and they have to go 15 plus games to wake up from it. We'll be back to 3rd place.

Yeah I get you. I have hope though only because it’s baseball and during this run, we’re prone to bad stretches.

In 2017 we had a bad stretch at the end of the year.
In 2018, we had a bad start to the year.

So, that gives me hope that one day, we’re just going to start firing on all cylinders again.

I think Seager does help because Lux has been ass offensively. Under .700 ops isn’t going to cut it.

Another game we should be up by 4-5 runs and it's a 2-2 game through 5. What a frustrating team this is.

And every g'damn sub-.200 hitting lefty they have gets a hit off our lefty pitchers. It's just so frustrating for me to watch. Heyward is awful and we've allowed him to reach base SEVEN times in a row in this series. They have a .196 hitter then get a hit after the double play.

-I’m liking Phil Bickford.

Dude can give multiple innings and he’s doing the job, unlike our minor leaguers who’ve been called up this year.

-So far, I’m liking Bickford and Cleavinger

-If we can win today, we’ll have taken back 2 of our 4 game losing streak.

- Lux has been so ass offensively. I don’t know when he’s going to live up to his no. 2 prospect ranking (if ever). I keep waiting to see him break out but he’s just stuck in mediocrity so far.

Padres sweep us but are losing to the Diamondbacks 8-0.

Goes to show how psyched up they get for us. They can’t sustain that type of energy but they definitely bring it for us.
