They did re-up Stafford but I am not sure that would have been my #1 priority.

It is very hard to repeat and Rams seem to have taken a step back from a roster perspective in my mind.

They restructured Stafford's contract to create more cap space. They replaced Whitworth by resigning Noteboom. They replaced Woods by signing Allen Robinson. Hekker is replaceable. AD will have a new contract soon. OBJ will likely resign but may not be ready to until Nov/Dec. They have enough cap space for Wagner and more...

Wasn't this somewhat inevitable? The salary structure already was bustin' at the seams last year as they went for broke. How can they re-up Stafford and Donald, sign OBJ and keep everyone else? Also, losing Woods but gaining Allen Robinson is, at least, a wash, but more likely an improvement.

We have some competition.

All-Pro free agent linebacker Bobby Wagner visited the Baltimore Ravens today, per source. Ravens have high interest in Wagner, who also visited the Rams this week.

From Peter King's FMIA column:

Bobby Wagner. Rams have legitimate interest, but not at Wagner’s price—he’s thought to be asking for about $11 million on a one-year deal. The 32-year-old linebacker is still playing very well, and he’d be a luxury item for the Super Bowl champs. If he wants to stay in the same division as the team that dropped him, Seattle, Wagner will have to recalibrate his asking price down. He may just find another team—Baltimore? Dallas?—with more money available.

Figured it was something related to money. Oh well, we have other needs to address. Just please get someone who can tackle better than Troy Reeder!

For weeks, the Rams were quite public about their interest in Wagner, who they believe can align with rising star ILB Ernest Jones and help keep them multiple on the back end. Wagner can do everything and will be a day-1 leadership add as well.

HAHA took a few more days but finally Snead got something positive done in Free Agency, the sportsbooks have already bumped the Rams down a couple pegs up until Wagner's signing.

Allen Robinson was a great signing and they resigned Noteboom which was huge.

"5-year deal" LOL. Now the holes on the defense are at edge rusher and CB2. Good get here, even though our defense doesn't highly prioritize the LB spot; at least Wagner will be on the field basically at all times, however.

Love the Wagner signing, and at half the price of Miller.

Wagner signing will be huge, will give us a lot better run support and help us in dealing with teams like the Niners. We blew the cap space we had, will need it for a couple of more signings and for room for the draft picks. Figure new we will try to extend Donald and Kupp, to reward them, and also convert more of their salary to bonus's, and create some room.

Still need a corner (though Williams sucked last year, so probably anything is an improvement), another rusher - would love to get Clowney, and more depth for the offensive line.

As the entire world knew, the Wagner deal is essentially a 2-year deal, but here are some further specifics:

Ian Rapoport
@RapSheet

With Bobby Wagner’s contract official, a look at the numbers:

— Functionally, it’s a 2-year deal worth $17.5M base with a chance to make $23.5M with incentives.
— He gets $6.5M in Year 1 — but $10M fully guaranteed, working with the #Rams while they work on Aaron Donald, etc.

The Rams have found their replacement for Johnny Hekker, signing former Giants punter Riley Dixon.

Love the Bobby Wagner signing for the Rams, especially at the discount vs. Von Miller.

With Wagner’s deal accounted for, how much cap space do the Rams have left this offseason? According to Over the Cap, the Rams are left with $7.148 million in cap room. That doesn’t include Riley Dixon’s one-year deal, which was signed on Tuesday, but considering he’s a punter, he shouldn’t take up more than about $1.5 million.

The Rams can still gain additional cap space by extending Aaron Donald and possibly Cooper Kupp. Donald has a cap hit of $26.75 million and Kupp’s is $18.68 million this year, so an extension for either player could create room by spreading money out like the Rams did with Matthew Stafford.

This is what I expect to happen, at least one more extension to get more cap room. There's still an obvious need for a CB2, and there are decent possibilities out there.

Getting both Gilmore and the Honey Badger - that might make us the best defense of the decade.
