Let's see...
Starters:
PG: Lonzo Ball
SG: D'Angelo Russell
SF: Brandon Ingram
PF: Julius Randle
C: Ivica Zubac
Bench:
SG: Josh Hart
SF: Kyle Kuzma
PF: Moritz Wagner
C: Thomas Bryant
I think we'd be one of those young teams that is good for 50+ wins if I were to consider the chemistry they'd have developed. (Nuggets | Blazers | Jazz territory)
We'd have a scorer off the bench like Kuzma and three 20 ppg scorers in the starting lineup in Russell, Ingram and Randle, and Ball running the show at point guard and the size down low with Zubac.
You'd also have 2 capable passers in the starting lineup in Randle and Ingram and 2 very beyond capable passers in Russell and Ball.
I think that team would win more than 35 games. They'd need a veteran though on the team(like a Lou Williams) though cause all young teams need that veteran or they flounder (like the Wizard were pre-Paul Pierce... and then where they fell back to without Paul Pierce)
If you added our two other draft picks (Clarkson and Nance) to the bench, then we'd have a pretty darn dangerous team because Clarkson and Kuzma's scoring off the bench, Thomas Bryant and Larry Nance Jr's hustle and defense, Josh Hart's sniping.
On paper, we'd be a very deep team. The question is if all the pieces worked together and if Luke(or Vogel) could make it work or were good enough to. In a perfect world, the Rockets would fire D'Antoni, and he'd be coming back to coach THAT team, instead of D12 coming back. |
Pretty meaningless hypothetical to daydream about since it doesn't even seem semi feasible to afford to keep all of those guys together long-term anyway. |
The Pelicans are basically this team when Zion gets back.
DLo is obviously a better shooter than Holiday, but Jrue plays better defense.
However, Zion is better than Randle, and the Center position is even. Kuzma is better than Melli, but Melli fills the role so far. Redick represents the FA money we'd have after stretching Deng and flipping Moz for an expiring Dwight 15 months ago. Wagner wouldn't get much time with Kuz/Bryant/Zu/Randle taking the bulk of minutes, and some Hart at PF.
Of course, had Luke not resigned, we'd suck anyway, so continuity is irrelevant, unless the continuity is being atrocious. |

I really, really miss Brandon Ingram. Wow, we could use his midrange game now. |

Watched that Pelicans vs Mavs game tonight. We won the AD trade by a mile. Those guys are not special players. |

Watching him tear up the Rockets down the stretch (with Giannis having fouled out) renewed my unhappiness about letting him walk for no reason last summer.
Eric had the right plan laid out about renouncing him but keeping his bird rights. He'd be amazing as our starting 5. He'd fit perfectly next to AD, leaving Javale as an excellent backup.
Biggest mistake (of many) under Magic. |
Lopez is so inconsistent. Davis is way under achieving by relying on his broken jump shot. If we have to wait for him to develop to prove his worth, the kids get the same benefit of the doubt. Let's see what happens. |

Darth and Ventura should start a club called “I think everything about the world sucks, and my life’s work is to remind people of that every 30 seconds.”

Pels have a shooting coach and Ingram hits his career high in 3s, even his swishes look different. And Lonzo's form is different. yea... |

Taking into account all their talent as a whole at their age AD was still significantly better. Maybe they close the gap in a few years although they may all be on separate teams by then. |

Would you rather have the current Lakers team or the team of three years ago? I couldn't be any happier to have got ridden of all those deadbeats and finally have a team that is considered one of the best.
I'm still salty about losing Lou though because of what we got in return for him. _________________ Playoffs is good enough. - Jeanie Buss 2024 |

Same. That is the most infuriating part. I can get over the guys we let go because they didn't really live up to the hype. Luka and Trae are special though. Just the luck of the draw. But then who's to say we would've kept that player and not included in the trade for AD? David Griffin is a top notch executive/negotiator. He would've said any trade for AD has to start with Luka (or Trae). |

1) BI shutting down Porzingis while being the #1 option on the offensive end on a mediocre team is about what I expected, but he needs to stop doubting himself so much in late game situations. That turnover to JRue the end was so cringeworthy and senseless, considering he had a mismatch on him. I think he'll figure it out. Seems like that surgery zapped his upper body strength, and it will take a while to regain. I'm happy for him. He would have never thrived here (unless you consider his post-ASB play last season "thriving").
2) Why did we let TB go? Dude is legit center in this league, and he's a second round pick. Management's gotta realize that a team needs *some* youth. |
