KG is correct.

He was on his way, still young enough

AD seems to have a lot of Pau in him. Requires an external motivation to go from really talented to title grabbing beast.

Something about preternaturally talented men who are preternaturally large just needing *something* to get them there. Maybe just life coming so easy to them…

In reality, a lot of people in general lack self-motivation. Being self-motivated is a pretty rare quality.

Not making an excuse for AD, but it's too much for us to expect every single star or superstar to be self-motivated. Kobe Bryant really spoiled us and our expectations from superstars.

Just train smartly and don't come into camp fat and out of shape. That's all I ask for.

What idiot is advising him that you need to bulk up your upper body to be strong to play basketball? You need strong legs and core, upper body is really not needed. If anything you wanna keep your body mobile and lean to reduce unneeded weight.

I respect what KG is trying to do there but him and AD its completely different mentality. Not comparable at all. And for KG to try and motivate AD is loss of time. AD is a guy who don't care about MVPs or being the best player possible. I have a feeling that he like basketball and like to play but in kind of relaxed way without too much pressure or to die for any ball. He is just not like that. Me as fan I accepted that. It will not change.

Perhaps all the discussion of “Davis at center” motivated him to bulk up.

Hopefully this year he leans out and the Lakers sign some centers to allow Davis to do what he does best.

Jones is a good start. Still need a couple more centers added IMO.

Pau’s case is odd. Went from being soft and mentally weak, to overcoming it in 08-09 and especially 09-10, and then reverting to being even softer and mentally weaker than he was originally for the rest of his career. I wonder what his NBA legacy would have been without Kobe.

The bolded, along with staying healthy, is most of the battle for AD.

If we get Kyrie and have a real shot at the chip, AD will probably play with greater fire and passion. If we roll with Westbrook, we'll be a second-round team at best, and we may see stretches of a less-than-aggressive AD.

Stop it. Kyrie isn’t the deciding factor on us being a contender. AD is so it doesn’t matter if it’s Kyrie or Westbrook. AD and Lebron will be the reason we’re a contender

Whatever happens, even if LBJ is 100% next year, and say we get Kyrie and he plays at a high level, AD must be healthy and play at a high level for us or we are dead in the water. He is the connective tissue on this team as he is the best defender. I do hope he plays more PF this year as I think he is better as a roamer, as opposed to being a center anchor.

Maybe KI can see him and AD leading the Lakers when LeBron is gone. They're buds right? And Kobe was their mentor. Can't say they'll win anything with their injury history but at least they'll be competitive

1) He didn't come into camp out of shape, everyone was talking about his bulked up body because they wanted him to play center despite him not wanting to, but he did it for the team, and it was a hindrance to him.

2) The 'idiots' screaming for AD to play center were the coaching staff, LeBron and Lakers fans.
