It was being re-evaluated after 4 weeks, not returning.

As a reminder... Pau's best season as a Laker was at 18.3 points (53.6% fg), 11.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 0.6 steals, and 1.7 blocks in 37 minutes.

His best playoff averages as a Laker were 19.6 points (53.9% fg), 11.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 0.4 steals, and 2.1 blocks during the second title run.

It's tough to gauge Davis too much since he only has really had one healthy season so far and in last seasons playoffs he was playing hurt when he played. But in that one healthy season he averaged 26.1 points (50.3% fg, 33% 3p), 9.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.6 steals, and 2.4 blocks.

In those playoffs he averaged 27.7 points (57.1% fg, 38.3% 3p), 9.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.4 blocks.

You add to that the fact that Davis is one of the best defenders in the league, where Pau was an above average defender at best. This isn't really a debate.

Thus far ... Pau is still better. You factor in games played.

AD is even softer than Pau, and this came from a big critic of Pau's toughness when he was on this team. Pau was soft going against the likes of Kentrick Perkins and KG because he's not physically strong enough, not because he was scared and not trying. AD on the other hand when confronted with a physical defense would just settle for fade away jumpers or sitting out.

Anyone who thought "4 weeks" meant "back in 4 weeks" hasn't been an NBA fan for very long, or hasn't paid attention. Teams never give anything close to a true injury timeline. Whatever number they give you, double it.

I dunno. Now I'm starting to think AD will f'up the chemistry the Lakers have been building lately. This current Lakers team plays with purpose and energy, not that soft, no conviction, lazy-assed playing AD was stinking the team up with. Just saying...

Don’t know about chemistry, but he will definitely hurt my viewing experience simply because he is too fragile.

We need to get away from posting him up on the block to end up on a bad shot (usually low percentage fade away J). LeBron at the 5 is showing you what Davis should be doing. Screening, moving without the ball, etc

I fully expect AD to return refreshed, motivated and determined to play winning team basketball.
He has been much maligned even while playing through injuries.
IMO he will be fired up to prove the haters wrong.

Pau Gasol once took a fadeaway while Nate Robinson was guarding him, stop

Lakers were a top 10 defense with him. Dropped to a 20th+ defense without him.

He's needed. Don't be silly. He's our best 2 way player.

Lakers are doing well because they've actually been able to keep a consistent lineup for more than 3 games. Which wasn't the case earlier in the season, nor was it AD's fault. His two way play was the reason our record wasn't worse.

I would have loved to see this team win games against legit NBA teams, without looking at our last 4 wins most of it was against teams that were dealing with injuries/Covid.. yesterday was a very nice win granted it was against a team that might be on the crisp of making major changes, if people think we don’t need Anthony Davis to compete against the top tier teams then I don’t know what to tell you..

We need Davis. And we need Nunn for the playoffs. You want as many quality players as possible, especially knowing it is inevitable we will have people go down with Covid.

With that being said, this team is a better team with a say a health KAT or Embid or Ayton than a healthy AD at this point because AD is attempting to be a SF when we really need him to be our five. Be he no desire to play as a true five. Maybe after coming back from injury, we will see the AD we saw the championship season but I have my doubts.

Why would anyone rely on Embiid if they've spent the last 200 pages talking about how 'fragile' AD is because someone threw themselves into his knee -_-

AD makin progress. Yay.

Per Goon (video at link)

Anthony Davis out on the court, shooting with a knee brace. He was jumping rope a little earlier.

When he comes back the chemistry will be thrown off. The problem with AD is that he doesn't operate in the confidence that LeBron has in terms of "Being the Best Player On the Court".

I hope he can turn things around when he does return, I doubt the Lakers trade a player of his caliber, but you never know!

Evaluated in 4 weeks probably means: after 4 weeks he's on course and we'll reevaluate in another 1-2 weeks. Then get in some light drills, then practices so he's probably still another 3 weeks from playing in a game I would guess. Still good that it was not a serious injury and hopefully he comes back understanding how much we need him to play hard/well on both ends of the court

I cant see him coming back before mid February. He was already is bad shape before injury. Imagine him now after sitting out for a month. It will be great if we have him for final 25 game push to catch some standings.

Replacing Stanley with him in the starting 5 would go a long way for our ballclub. But no matter what we do, so long as Westbrook is on the team, we are going to be shaky. Great one moment, awful the next.

AD and THT to Atlanta for John Collins, Clint Capela, Kevin Huerter, and De’Andre Hunter. Who says no?

Why?

Frank Vogel, asked about Anthony Davis when he returns, said the direction the Lakers will likely go in is Davis starting at the 5, and LeBron playing backup 5, at least for the base/initial looks.
