I'm disappointed but not surprised. He's trying to do his job and be convincing, and well, with someone of his stature in the game saying something like that...

I can imagine how hurt he was, when the reigns of the Laker franchise went to Phil Jackson over Jerry, despite the decades of incredible work vs a recent hire.
I don't like what he did at all. But that dude is my childhood hoop hero, and outside of coaching, excelled at every level and was a tortured hoop player.

Wow. Salesperson or not, I thought Jerry West was a different person than that. As much as I appreciate all that Jerry did for the Lakers in the past and being a father figure for Kobe..... (bleep) Jerry West.
And if he remotely did what was alleged, then hope the league (bleep) him too. |

Yeah to be fair, many Laker fans (including me) were calling the front office a sh**show all last year.

I lost respect for Jerry when he helped create rule changes that made it tougher for our franchise to win chips.

Very true, many were not pleased with Jeanie and the Rambii last year. IIRC, there was even a small group of fans that gathered outside of Staples to voice their displeasure with the state of the Lakers.
Jerry West calling the Lakers a (bleep)show at the time did echo the sentiment of many fans, especially after #2 signed over there. The aftermath was tough, fortunately, through thick and thin, the Lakers came together to win it all. |

Agreed with the first part with a Kobe reverse layup the new logo. Maybe they will discuss it after Kobe's HOF ceremony.

Also, Rob Pelinka would never go to the mess that is Jerry West and the Clippers! The Lakers situation is infinitely more appealing.

Without the Lakers, they wouldn't be as successful and well-known as they are today. A lot of legends for other franchises like Bill Russell and Dr. J never got the same recognition as ones from the Lakers.

West has been getting paid by other NBA teams for 20 years. Something went wrong between he and Dr. Buss at some point and that was that. He owes the Lakers nothing.
They also unceremoniously dumped Mitch Kupchak after saddling him with Jim. West and Mitch were tight as some might recall.
And before the Lakers landed AD, they were a s—- show indeed.
As Leonard himself has now tossed water on this trash can fire, the guess here is that West’s well-earned reputation will survive intact. |

Yes I'm sure you're a reliable source on the truth behind how much recognition Bill Russell has received from the Celtics over the last half century, and I'm sure Jerry West feels exactly like you do about the recognition he's received from the Lakers too. |

Eh. Jerry West hasn't worked for the Lakers for 18 years. He's been taking a paycheck from the Clippers for four or five years now, and he's just doing his job.
Getting upset at him would be like getting upset that Rondo and Dwight try to beat the Lakers this year instead of letting us win.
He doesn't owe the Lakers or Lakers fans anything.

Definitely sounded like Jerry on the voicemail. Also, isn't criminal impersonation to impersonate someone by making up a voicemail like that? If it's fake, then someone might be in trouble but I think it's real.
