Per Shams
The Los Angeles Lakers have claimed Avery Bradley off waivers, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. |
Ah ha, you are quick today lol.
Good move…we are deficient at defense. This helps. |
LOL I was waiting for this one. But now I have to go do stuff so I won't be as quick on the draw LOL
This was interesting tho
Per Gozlan
Avery Bradley is on a non-guaranteed deal so I can see the Lakers waiving him once Talen Horton-Tucker and Trevor Ariza get healthy. It would cost the Lakers $7M in combined payroll and luxury tax expenses if Bradley becomes guaranteed and finishes the season with them.

Lol Smh you beat me again to Gozlan tweet. Yeah I took it as “don’t get attached to AB” scenario.
This looks like the Lakers adding defense with a guy who executes exactly what Vogel wants and at the same time it helps AB raise his value across the league again. Seems like he lost some value since that Heat contract and from his perspective, if he just executes with this team he might get more interest again…

Way too many < 6’5” guards, not enough length to play the modern game: constant switching, positionless offense/defense. |

That’s the Buss motto for ya, spend $$$ on big names even they’re passed their prime, and penny pinching elsewhere. Our medical staff is still the worst in the league. |

30 year old Bradley is past his prime but Ennis at 31 is in his?
Lakers have most roster spots and minutes allocated. Doesn’t hurt to get a good on ball defender. Now, I wish they would cut DJ and sign Ennis. Roll with Huff as the 3rd big. _________________ You mystified at what exists inside

It’s a temporary move since THT and Ariza are out…..if he impresses then maybe he sticks and someone else gets cut. |

I think HBK can play as forward, there are instances in the preseason he did pretty good guarding opposing SF. |

another 6'2 Vs a 6'6". NOT interested in either, but I'd take the later

Tough to have strong feelings about the AB signing either way.
We are short on the wings. But it's not the end of the world. We'll be alright. The league is really perimeter oriented nowadays. And just the way the roster is constructed. I'm imagining AD starting at the 4. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

Stands to reason he’s familiar enough with our defensive schemes (which are harkening back to our 2020 model) that Bradley should be able to step right in on that end. Essentially he’s like the defensive equivalent to Rondo in offense. _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night. |

Does that really make any sense, though? We have lots of guards. We have Westbrook, Rondo, Bazemore, Ellington, Monk, and Reaves. He's 6' 3", so he's not cover for Ariza. I don't get it. _________________ Internet Argument Resolved |

So, the FO now thinks that tge guards we have are crap w.r.t defense?
Robthegenius. Frqnk is supposed to teach Shooting to Russ and Defense to melo. |

This is the strangest choice in a series of strange roster choices.
I really can't think of a justification other than wanting to go for the biggest available name. |

I think they’ll use Bazemore more in the wing role while Tucker and Ariza are out. Sekou has size but he hasn’t had a camp to learn the sets. You would have the same issue with another wing (like Ennis) coming in at this stage.
As for the guard rotation, Ellington has a hamstring injury (tough), Rondo isn’t going to hold up your defensive framework, and both Nunn and Monk have already gotten hurt. Finding a guy on the eve of the season to fill your 15th roster spot that can step right in if either of Nunn or Monk can’t go sounds like found money to me. Not saying it’s a watershed development, but not a bad use of the waiver wire. _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night. |

Robert Sarver refused to offer Deandre Ayton a max extension, the deadline was today. Other players from his draft class? Luka Doncic ($207 million /5 yrs) Trae Young ($172 million /5 yrs) Jaren Jackson Jr ($105 million /4 yrs) Mikal Bridges ($90 million /4 yrs)

Probably grabbing Ayton with the possible cap space Bron/Russ will vacate.
Btw, a 30% max (25% max w/incentives) is the type of deal Ayton was looking for and if current projections hold without cap smoothing and a higher annual increase, then there will be a 6% increase in this year’s cap to next (ie 119m). Carrying that 6% trend over to the 2023/24 season will project to a salary cap of 126m, making yr1 of a 30%max deal 37.8m (ie 31.5m base salary with max incentives). _________________ Not familiar with the salary cap/CBA rules & how it impacts our Lakers?
