Sure. Let's see that triple double in game 5 KD, since Shams just said Kyrie is out for game 5.

He should have said “these shoulders were built for a reason”

What does matter is how much he is going to get paid and only teams under the cap can give him what he wants- it will take a S&T for everyone else as all they can offer is one of the exceptions. I don't even see those teams with cap space lining up to give him 20 million a year with better and/or younger players available who are worth that.

If you can agree on that being unlikely (cap space teams signing him) then Schroder more than likely winds up on a team that is over the cap. They will need his Bird Rights in order to sign him to the money he is wanting.

There might be a half dozen or so teams that even have enough cap space to sign him to that type of contract he is wanting, and that is with a FA class that has DeRozan, Conley and Lowry in it (and Oubre Jr and Oladipo) and maybe 2-3 player option guys who may opt out like Pau, Dinwiddie and/or Powell (I dont expect Kawhi too) as well as a VERY ATTRACTIVE restricted list of free-agents in Collins, Ball, Allen, Robinson, etc. that they can throw offer sheets at. Schroder might not even be in the top 10 of that list (using cap space)

No, there is about a 75-80% chance I would say that DS is headed to a team that is over the cap and will need his Bird rights (sign and trade) in order to get close to the money he is wanting or is remaining with the Lakers....

Hell, because of the expected 2022 class being much better- many cap teams will hold on to their cap space as well rather than spend it- especially on a guy like DS who is far from a MAX type player

That 22 class could have Leonard, Harden and/or Durant, Curry, Beal, Irving possibly and LaVine among others....

Sure, DS' leverage with the Lakers is dependent on his ability to get other offers. I have no idea if any of the few teams will cap space will put in a bid for him.

I don’t think there is any mystery about the considerations at play, or the possible permutations that might happen. It's been a long time since I heard anyone say anything new about the DS situation; in all likelihood, everything that can be said has already been said a million times.

We’re in a holding pattern where fans keep repeating the various scenarios, as they wait for something real to happen.

Another Laker daily drop from Massey:

Okc and Sac eyeing Kuz.
https://mobile.twitter.com/massey_evan/status/1404530940173500417

If the Okc report is to be believed, shoulda woulda coulda did that dance with Cp3 rather than Schro last offseason.

Also Luke wanting to reunite with Kuz woulda been ideal for Bogs last offseason. But they still got Rob’s ex Buddy on the roster so maybe that’s a possibility.

@bkt: your exchange with activeverb is largely on point, except no team in a S&t can acquire Schro’s bird rights. The only way he gets bird rights with another team within the year is if we sign him using his full bird rights and wait the necessary 3 months to deal him away closer to this year’s deadline. A contract like a 2yr 40m deal which includes a player option in the 2nd year. Dude gets traded at the deadline, opts out next summer and his new team can sign him to a 5 yr full 30% max if they want to.

But in terms of the standard Sign & immediate trade to a new team, his contract will have 5% annual escalators (vs 8% if we pause the trade and move him later) and has to be a minimum of 3 yrs in length (this is a built in mechanism so his new team has the ability to have his full bird rights once that 3 year contract expires on their books).

^^^Well there is a theory making its rounds...

Quote:
Damian Lillard, how could you?

That’s a question many Portland Trail Blazers fans started asking after the franchise superstar made two shocking decisions late Friday evening.

First, Lillard announced to several reporters his two preferred choices for the Blazers’ next head coach. That’s something no Blazers player has ever done before—it’s vanishingly rare in the history of the NBA, period—and was a forceful demonstration of how much leverage Lillard holds over the Portland front office.

Second, he used that capital to recommend two candidates with documented histories of alleged domestic and sexual abuse.

Lillard’s top choice, Jason Kidd, accepted a plea deal for hitting his wife in 2001. During divorce proceedings, she also accused him of kicking her in the stomach while she was carrying his child.

Lillard’s second choice—and the candidate apparently preferred by the president of basketball operations, Neil Olshey—is Chauncey Billups. In 1997, Billups and a teammate were accused of rape, eventually settling the case in civil court for an undisclosed amount of money.

By Sunday morning, Kidd had withdrawn his name from consideration. It’s not clear if the revulsion expressed by Blazers fans on social media played a role in his decision. He said he didn’t want to place Lillard in “an awkward position” with the team, ESPN reported.

But Dame doesn’t escape unscathed. For a generation of fans who grew up with Lillard as a civic hero, the revelation about whom he reveres was crushing.

“The hardest part about all of this is that Damian Lillard, an incredibly active and philanthropic member of our community, is the one throwing these names out there,” says Ashtyn Butuso, a longtime Blazers fan and founder of Flagrant magazine, a women-created basketball publication. “Dame is a person too; it’s possible he just doesn’t understand how gruesome the allegations are.”

For much of Lillard’s tenure in Portland, fans have feared he would leave this small-market city. But for some, this feels worse. A player who spent nearly a decade cultivating the most unimpeachable public image in the league has, in essence, placed a condition on his remaining in town: hire one of two men with horrifying histories of how they allegedly treat women.

You know we should cancel every player that idolized Kobe or wears his shoe. Just saying. Stupid articles. Cancel culture I hope gets Dame out of Portland. That would be hilarious.

No idea about the Billups case. Totally new on me. And I was a teen when it's alleged to have happened - Dame was seven years old. Who thinks Lillard is wandering around with a Rolodex of coaching names and their decades old criminal accusations/convictions in his head purposefully picking candidates with past abuse allegations?

"In essence" is doing a whole lot of bs spinning on this clickbait take.

That written, Jason Kidd would make a great coach in Orlando!

Raptors won't have significant room anytime soon and have yet to draw FAs, so DS for Lowry makes sense (if not Miami). Lowry gets a 2 yr deal with LBJ's timeline and we still have KCP and THT.

Lowry/Caruso
KCP/THT
James/Kuzma
AD/Morris
Center(Tax MLE)/Gasol

Still have 1st to upgrade from Kuz or KCP, or add a center.

Keeping that little bit of hope alive that Luka demands a trade in the near future if the Mavs can’t build the roster he desires, it’s fun to speculate as long as he doesn’t sign the extension.

Seems like he's just doing the standard blogger thing. He finds an "NBA source" (which could mean anything) and gets the source to cough up some idle speculation. Then he speculates about the speculation, writing it up in vague, nothing-is-for-sure language like "expected to pursue," "considering a trade," or "early potential landing spots."

Manufacturing this type of info isn't particular hard, because there isn't anything at its core except someone shooting off from their hip.

Honestly, he is just catering to the Inspector Gadgets of the world, who want some rumor or tidbit they can talk about. Whether the rumor or tidbit has any truth is irrelevant because another rumor will replace it tomorrow.

The Magic have no way to go but up; it's a team he can build from the ground up. He might be concerned that Portland has reached its potential with its players, most of whom are pushing 30, and it's a no-win situation if they are looking for a coach to take it to the next level immediately.

These OKC rumors are interesting and trading Kuzma for some draft capital could make a ton of sense. I wonder what we could get? Just a Kuzma dump for No. 18 in this draft? That gives us the ability to more easily afford AC/THT/DS. You could take on Horford, but I doubt they pay us more draft capital to do that.

You could do the same thing with Sac, but I doubt they're giving us #9 (or 10, 11 or wherever they end up). Kuzma/Trezz for Hield is interesting, but probably not worth it.

I kinda like the Kuzma for #18 dump, but unless we have a use for that pick (package with 22 for a higher pick or by itself for another asset), it probably makes more sense to just keep Kuz.

You gotta expand Harrison's tweet to see how it starts. Massey seems like those insider posers.

Kuz & KCP for Hield seems like a deal the Kings would make.
Both Kuz and KCP played well under Walton.
KCP would be a nice fit along Fox. He wouldn’t complain about minutes like Hield.
Kuz would return to having a big scoring load, something i’m sure he’s clamoring for.

Heild shot 10 three pointers a game. Sure is comfortable in the long distance role and he can create off the drible. Seems like an ideal 3rd scorer type.
Of course, he would have to change his number from his idol.

Kuz for fox. He doesn’t want to be there according to reports mid season
