1. trade KL for the best package possible. by the time they get better players around KL, he would be 30.
2. the KL trade should happen before the preseason in case ugly holdout and lowers value.
3. they are best off tanking so let the young players play.

Nice thread. Puts the Kawhi discussion on it's head. First, the questions.

Do we think the relationship with Kawhi is salvageable?
How do we feel about the injury risk?
What does ownership want our balance sheet to look like?
What is our competitive timeline?
What is Pop's retirement timeline?
If we decide to move on, how do we create the most robust market?

IMO all of the pointers suggest moving Kawhi except Pop's timeline. Even if you think you can keep him, you'll be stuck in the middle after which Pop retires and the bottom falls out. Better to make the move a year too early than a year too late (credit Dr. Buss). The fans will rally behind their team and Pop, and if they can get a blue chip like Ingram will have hope for the future. Ownership will make a mint and they're probably back in the fray right about the time the current power teams are on the back nine. Basically, you have to convince Pop to do a rebuild in the last years of his coaching career.

They were smart by using Magic's arrogance against him, suggesting Kawhi was the key to James. Magic held tough though and that pressure point is gone. LA in turn is building it's own pressure point by preserving max cap room in 2019. San Antonio is trying to build new pressure points by leaking that Kawhi would consider staying in Philly or with the Clippers. Also worth noting that many teams will have max space next year. But Magic is now armed with James, max space in 2019, some choice prospects and the full force of the Laker brand.

If I were the Spurs I would gun for Ingram, Hart and a first.

Kawhi is gonna leave.

Spurs need to tank.

Why not just trade for Deng and 4 picks.

KL will get traded this summer but not to the LAkers.

Next year he will be wearing purple and gold.

Very good breakdown. We are negotiating from a position of power as:

    - We secured Lebron
    - We are his stated preferred destination
    - Every other team with desirable assets knows they're gambling huge on a possible 1-season rental
    - We will probably be a better team than SAS this year

If I'm them, I assess the situation and realize their best plan for the future is to trade Kawhi to us and set the stage for a rebuild. Ingram has the highest ceiling of all the available young Laker talent, so that Ingram/Hart/1st trade offer makes the most sense. He also has their kind of attitude: willing to learn, hard worker, humble, doesn't make waves. I've never heard of him being in any type of trouble. Make that trade, prepare for the future rather than being hung out to dry because you don't want to help a rival's resurgence.

Start the rebuild, especially after Warriors signed Cousins. The Warriors are going to be the team to beat for at least 2 more years so rebuild and start your window after that.

Take Ingram and 2 1sts and call it a day.

Save SA money. Have a healthy player that develops strong anyway. Future upside picks with 1st rounders.

They'll make the playoffs, but this isn't '16 GSW anymore. So play long term, develop Derrick White and keep DeJounte Murray and roll with it.

I would trade Leonard straight up for Deng. Then dump everybody else for draft picks outside of Murray and Walker. Immediately start the rebuild process.

Then take that Sixers GM job.

Highest bidder at this point. Dont need to worry about trading him to th east so he can with a west team or the Lakers as a free agent. he is gone so best bid by the start of the season should get him.
