|

Edit: Pipe dream shattered with Westbrook agreeing to extension.
This is purely overreaching pipe dream assuming OKC overreacts when Westbrook does not sign his max extension.
Lakers trade Ball, Randle, Nance, Clarkson, Lopez, and 2020 1st round pick (plus other 2nd round picks if necessary) for Westbrook and George during the 2018-19 season.
Lakers stretch the remainder of Deng's contract after the 2018-19 season.
Lakers resign Westbrook and George for $28.5 million starting salary and subsequently sign James to the same starting salary of $28.5 million. This would involve player "tampering" where they agree to take this discount (Westbrook and James could have starting salaries at $35.7 million and George could start at $30.6 million)
Lakers 2018-19 roster would be Westbrook, James, George, Ingram, Kuzma, Hart with remainder to be filled out.

We can forget about all of that now...
Wade + James in Cleveland will mean James could end it there...
Melo + George + Westbrook in OKC, means they have a serious chance to compete for a title and they will probably give it at least 2 years.
Durant + Curry + Green + Thompson = these guys being competitive for many years to come.
Which basically leaves the Lakers in a serious Sugar Honey Ice Tea Hole if you know what I'm saying.
Let's make the best of this year and watch these young guys compete. I believe we have enough ammunition to make a seed in the playoffs, but that seriously about it. We have a nice mix of young and vet guys and if we can stay healthy, it should be exciting to watch at best. |
