I will always be grateful to Buss family but because of these decisions I wish they sell the Lakers.

A lot of you are poo pooing this decision.
But if it was Kobe, you would all be celebrating….even if the team sucked.

What if this team is improved this year and they do make a run? Maybe we eat crow.

Not sure why some of you hate Lebron so much. He’s the only reason this team is competitive to begin with.

At least now the FO plans are clear.

The business side of the James Retirement Tour is more important then attempting to be competitive.

Next step will be to squander more assets trying to rid ourselves of WB and fulfill James’ latest roster fantasy.

Can’t wait to see the next move. SMH

Please don't put Kobe and Lebron in same sentence.

I am not, that’s not the intention. I just mean, with Lebron, it doesn’t matter if he was signing for $3, a lot of you would be pissed.

No I would not. I look only Lakers interest. And 97 mil $ deal for 38 years old player is bad deal. And why? because Lebron is not anymore on same level as Jokic,Curry,Giannis and other best players in the league.
If he signed for 2 years/40mil I would say well done Lakers.

I get it....believe me, I do.
But does any player of his caliper take a massive haircut like that?
No, they don't....

Remember, it's the market....
Would I love for Lebron to sign for $10 mill to have money to sign other players? Hell yes...

But, that's not the market...

Seriously, is that even possible? How can you sign an extension whose combined worth in 2 years is less than your salary next season?

Ok great its market. I agree. Than walk away and dont sign him.
Go another direction and reset and build something.
This is fully commercial deal.
And I am basketball fans. Cant care less for commercial staff.
Future is dark for Lakers I am afraid.

Still top 5 player and best point guard in the league despite his age. Or would you have preferred to overpay Ingram, Ball and Kuz and stay ringless ?

LBJ got us a ring, a tradeable asset(AD), and will keep us competitive for the next few years. Remember, he came here when no one else would. When he is gone, we will be back in the lottery because free agents dont want to come here so enjoy the ride and be grateful.

Not sure what you guys expected them to do, of course they were going to sign him and of course they weren't getting a discount.

Hopefully he exhibits better leadership on the floor this season but he actually played well last season....just missed too many games.

Without him, this team is the Knicks or something...they had no choice.

I am a firm believer that Lebron will continue being a top 10 player through the duration of his contract. The only concern is his availability. He could barely play 3 games in a row last season without sustaining a random injury. I don't believe that will get any better in the upcoming years. So expect top 10 production whenever he is available, but he is no longer reliable to be on court on any given night.

1) Lebron is not Kobe
2) Lebron is not signing for $3

We were here for the Kobe retirement tour now we are witnesses to the Lebron retirement tour. We probably won't be competitive but it will telegraph to other superstars that we take care of our players so they might come here during free agency.

“ any given night”? Try any given quarter or any given play.

Some of you are blinded by the offensive production. The problem is there are two ends of the court. Or those that complain about wanting “ more movement in a system” or getting others involved. Not happening with a player like James. Or unfortunately another in Westbrook. Ham just can’t cover for both on any given night.

James dominates the ball. That was awesome 5, 10, 15 years ago. Not so much as a 38 yr old setting career highs of 22 attempts per game or chucking 30 ft 3pt attempts as he runs the clock down.

Someone mentioned leadership. I will be thrilled to see him consistently getting back past half court or showing effort on rotations or close outs. That effort is a part of the leadership the Lakers should be getting from $48m year and the centerpiece of the roster.

I root for the Lakers. Have for half a decade. I appreciate James as a great player and in adding a championship. But he limits the competitiveness of the team with his contract and managed intensity.

This is a business move that embraces mediocrity. At least the Lakers will get all those prime time National games they covet. It would be nice to see them win a couple this season instead of the 70 pt half’s we were subjected to last season. Not sure I can take another season of announcers talking about how embarrassing the lack of Laker effort is on the court.
