You mischaracterize what Engel said. He did not say Russiagate is BS. He said he could not find evidence to support it. That he could not find evidence regarding Russia, considering how they control the media and how they disappear those in opposition, is not the least bit surprising.

The new plumbers.

For those who don't know the history:

Quote:
The White House Plumbers, sometimes simply called the Plumbers, the "Room 16 Project," or more officially, the White House "Special Investigations Unit" was a covert White House Special Investigations Unit, established within a week after the publication of the "Pentagon Papers" in June 1971, during the presidency of Richard Nixon. Its task was to stop and/or respond to the leaking of classified information, such as the Pentagon Papers, to the news media.

Quote:
On Thanksgiving evening of 1971, David Young arrived home from his planning at the Special Investigative Unit, when his grandmother asked him, "What do you do at the White House?" He replied, "I am helping the president stop some leaks." She exclaimed, "Oh, you're a plumber!" Young, E. Howard Hunt, and G. Gordon Liddy then put up a sign on their office with the title "The Plumbers" but it was taken down since their covert operations were supposed to be top secret. Still, the name stuck for the group

Trump's "rise" has been built off of (amongst many things) Non Disclosure Agreements.

He's paid for people's silence about his misdeeds and most people cannot afford to break the NDA.

You can't force people to sign NDAs in public service. That's why a properly vetted politician will have people who can speak out about any improprieties while that candidate was in public office.

That's why he is constantly fighting against disclosure about things like his tax returns or paying off people like Stormy Daniels.

That letter from the White House Counsel (which was an utter joke of a legal document/argument) as well as his counsel's attempts to stymie testimony upon very weak "executive privilege" grounds are Trump's attempts to lock them up in a fictional NDA.

Without NDAs, no way Trump could ever survive the scrutiny b/c so many people have seen how he has conducted business. they are just locked up into punitive NDAs.

To be fair, his white Evangelical base still wouldn't care if his improprieties were aired out if he didn't have NDAs.

So the lack of evidence is now evidence in itself? You've just demonstrated how conspiratorial thinking works. There's always an excuse.

They also broke into Daniel Ellsberg's psychiatrist's office and got his file and ransacked the office to make it look like a general burglary. File cabinet in question, they took a crowbar to it.

What Engel said three years ago is irrelevant. We just had the largest federal investigation in recent memory, which proved that Russiangate was real, as over 400 pages of the Mueller Report clearly show.

So Giuliani says he won't comply with subpoenas from the Democrats...juicy!

Giuliani, who is President Trump's personal attorney, told ABC News that he will "see what happens" if Democrats enforce the subpoena. The deadline for complying is Tuesday.

Giuliani had hired former Watergate attorney Jon Sale as counsel in the case, but he told ABC that he is parting ways with Sale.

Giuliani and Sale did not immediately respond to requests for comment from The Hill.

Oh look, another "accidental" connection to Russian intelligence. NYT: The Ukrainian Prosecutor Behind the Dossier Targeting Hunter Biden

Quote:
When the Ukrainian prosecutor Konstiantyn H. Kulyk compiled a seven-page dossier in English that accused the son of former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. of corruption, he helped set off a political firestorm that has led to the impeachment investigation of President Trump.

But even as he was reopening a corruption case related to Hunter Biden’s service on the board of Burisma Holdings, a major Ukrainian gas company, Mr. Kulyk himself was under a cloud of suspicion.

He has been indicted three times on corruption charges and accused of bringing politically motivated criminal cases against his opponents. In a Ukrainian security clearance form, Mr. Kulyk admitted having ties to a warlord in eastern Ukraine accused of working for the Russian intelligence services.

The fact that it was three years ago doesn't even matter. Just because Engel didn't/doesn't see evidence is meaningless. He is not in the position to really know the facts.

Also in the Engel video, he wasn't even talking about the entire RussiaGate investigation. He was only talking about not being able to prove Russia having kompromat on Trump. That was it. That was all he was referring to.

I think you have it backward. Engel said he couldn’t prove some of the claims (he did not deny the evidence of hacking and other manipulation, merely the probable smoking gun that had Trump colluding with them). And you’re the one saying that means russiagate is a hoax. There’s plenty of there there. It’s individual details and tying the players together in a legal sense that isn’t.

I said the "essence of Russiagate" and should have been more specific: the dominant conspiracy theory that Donald Trump was a Russian asset through compromising material. That conspiracy evolved over the years to include being a Russian asset through payoffs and years of cultivation as well, and Engel doesn't touch that. But regardless that was the heart of the story, and all of it was false. I understand there's a PR attempt now to claim it was really about obstruction and Russian interference, but that was never going to be enough to remove him from office, and most people understood that going in, I believe.

Ugh, the Hunter Biden ABC interview clip I just saw was not fun to watch.

Biden refused to acknowledge mistakes when it came to past legislation over multiple debates. But THIS. This is where the Biden campaign (Hunter Biden specifically) admits a mistake?

Doesn't make sense to me. But hey, I'm probably not someone Biden's campaign is trying to target.
