Lakers Rumors: Latest on DeAndre Jordan, Trade Plans and More
By Chris Roling , Featured Columnist Jul 2, 2015

Through the first wave of free agency, the Los Angeles Lakers have been both quiet and hard at work attempting to woo the biggest names on the market.

In theory, all looks great for the Lakers. D'Angelo Russell is on board alongside Julius Randle, Los Angeles is Los Angeles and Kobe Bryant has a few years left. As an added bonus, the league itself gets an infusion of cap space soon.

Trail Blazers free agent Robin Lopez drawing interest from Knicks, Bucks, Lakers and Pelicans: Reports

Trail Blazers free agent Robin Lopez might not be the center of the NBA's free agent universe like his teammate LaMarcus Aldridge, but the Blazers center is still drawing interest from several teams around the league.

The New Orleans Pelicans, Milwaukee Bucks and New York Knicks are all interested in signing Lopez, according to the Shams Charania of RealGM. The Los Angeles Lakers also plan on meeting with Lopez, according to ESPN's Chris Broussard.

Can Robert Upshaw Be A Future Laker Star?
by Ayron Beavers 4h ago

The story of Robert Upshaw can be a feel good story of the road from addiction to redemption. It is a tale that very few get to live up to, but so many will cheer for. Twice booted from the University of Washington, and Fresno State programs, diagnosed with potential heart issue that kept him away from draft workouts briefly, and undrafted, Upshaw is still a model of a potential rags to riches story.

Lakers Free Agency: Updates and the latest rumors on Tobias Harris following crazy free agency start
By Drew Garrison  @DrewGarrisonSBN on Jul 2, 2015, 1:53a 90

Sam Greenwood/Getty Images
The first 24 hours of free agency were wild, but the Lakers are still empty-handed.

Day 1 of free agency was one of the most action-packed openings to the summer event in recent memory. LaMarcus Aldridge and DeAndre Jordan began their NBA tour, Kevin Love announced he's staying in Cleveland while the Cavaliers prepare to pay big bucks for LeBron James' next team, and several key free agents locked up deals elsewhere.

The Los Angeles Lakers have come up empty-handed thus far without a clear backup plan that's been reported on. Mitch Kupchak and the basketball operations team could be working on various scenarios with their high-profile meetings all in the books, but there's no telling what's going on behind closed doors. Their options have become limited, though, while all of their outgoing free agents have yet to sign deals elsewhere.

I hate to say it. If it wasn't a family operation heads would roll.

Loosing Ed Davis was total incompetence. Not watching your behind.

The Lakers are lucky but the FO office makes up for it by shooting themselves in the foot.

And the rest of the league laughing at them.

Lakers Rumors: Lakers get another chance at Lamacus Aldridge
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Lakers have secured a second meeting with Aldridge:

This is a surprising development as it was believed that the Lakers were out of the running completely. Wojnarowski also notes that the Lakers want to see if ‘they can get it right’:

The chances of the Lakers actually landing Aldridge still seem slim at this point, but the fact that Aldridge would even give them a second chance would seem to show that there is some interest there.

Lakers get a second chance to impress LaMarcus Aldridge, according to report

By Mike Prada  @MikePradaSBN on Jul 2, 2015, 4:22p 1

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Aldridge will meet with them again despite reportedly being underwhelmed by their initial presentation.

Despite falling flat in their first meeting, the Los Angeles Lakers will have a chance to sit down with LaMarcus Aldridge for a second time, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski. The Lakers' hope is that they can "get it right" after reportedly failing to impress the Blazers' marquee free agent in their first attempt.

General manager Mitch Kupchak and coach Byron Scott will be the only Lakers representatives attending the meeting, according to NBA.com's David Aldridge. The focus will be on basketball only, which makes sense because Aldridge reportedly felt the first meeting was too focused on non-basketball items.

LaMarcus Aldridge has concluded his initial list of meetings and will now circle back and even visit some of the teams pursuing him, Wojnarowski reports. Aldridge was holding his meetings in Los Angeles, where his agency, Wasserman Media Group, is located. The Lakers, Spurs, Suns, Raptors and Mavericks were among those that sat down with him. Miami Heat president Pat Riley will meet with LaMarcus, according to NBA.com's Aldridge. The Heat would need to move a lot of salary to sign him.

Report: LaMarcus Aldridge cancels scheduled meeting with the Knicks

LaMarcus Aldridge
While the Lakers are desperately trying to rectify things with LaMarcus Aldridge following a disastrous first meeting, it seems like the Knicks won’t even get an initial shot at recruiting the league’s top free agent

LaMarcus Aldridge Meeting with the Lakers Again, Kobe Bryant Not Invited

By Jason McIntyre 20 minutes ago

One day after a supposedly disastrous meeting between LaMarcus Aldridge and the LA Lakers – the LA Times even wrote a terrific tick-tock about “how the Lakers lost LaMarcus Aldridge” – something happened and now the power forward is meeting with them again.

What a stunning turn of events! A few theories behind this change of heart:

1) Aldridge feels bad about all the negative news that emerged from the meeting and because he’s such a swell guy, he’s willing to give them another shot and help the Lakers look less clueless than they are.

2) Aldridge wants to give the Suns more time to clear more cap room so he can pair with Tyson Chandler and Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight.

3) Reporters were woefully uninformed on the original Aldridge-Lakers meeting. (Note: Adrian Wojnarowski only reported that the Lakers “didn’t make a strong impression.”) It should be noted that just last week, it was reported LeBron wouldn’t be re-recruiting Kevin Love. That was way, way off, as Love said yesterday.

Podcast: Lakers are more attractive to free agents than the Knicks

ESPN NBA analyst Tom Penn joins Ryen Russillo to discuss the Los Angeles Lakers' strategy in free agency, whether the New York Knicks or Lakers are more attractive to free agents, and the impact of the salary cap increase.

Penn explains why the Lakers aren't attractive to free agents this summer. "They don't have much to offer, other than being in L.A.," Penn said.

"The Lakers sales pitch has to be a two-year sales pitch," stated Penn, who thinks the Lakers are a more appealing situation than the Knicks.

Lakers will get a second meeting with LaMarcus Aldridge

MARK J. TERRILL / ASSOCIATED PRESS

LaMarcus Aldridge will meet with the Lakers again on Thursday after L.A.'s original pitch on Tuesday night at the start of free agency fell flat.

BY MIKE BRESNAHAN
July 2, 2015, 2:08 p.m.
The Lakers requested and will receive a second meeting with free agent LaMarcus Aldridge, what they're calling a "follow-up" to their unsuccessful sit-down with him when free agency began Tuesday night.

Aldridge, the Lakers' top target this summer, was unimpressed by the team's initial pitch, wanting more talk about on-court projections and analytics and less discussion about branding possibilities in the city of Los Angeles.

It was unclear whether the Lakers could change his mind with Thursday's meeting, which was first reported by Yahoo Sports and will take place in Los Angeles.

Aldridge, 29, was dazzled by Houston's pitch that was heavy on analytics and on-court projections. He's not expected to sign with Houston, and he also was impressed by San Antonio's presentation, which clearly outlined him as a future franchise cornerstone, along with Kawhi Leonard.

Reports: LaMarcus Aldridge to meet with Lakers for second time
July 2, 2015 Updated 2:07 p.m.
By BILL ORAM / ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

Hold off on those obituaries for the Lakers offseason, at least for another day. The 16-time champions may yet have a chance to land LaMarcus Aldridge.

The Lakers have seemingly risen from the dead in their pursuit of the four-time All-Star. After reportedly being crossed off his list of potential destinations after a less-than-stellar meeting Tuesday night, the Lakers have reportedly been granted a second meeting on Thursday.

The meeting was first reported by Yahoo Sports.

It remains unclear just how seriously Aldridge is considering the Lakers, but reports say the team will focus its presentation this time on basketball, rather than the Hollywood and marketing talk that apparently turned Aldridge off in the first go-round.

Mark Humphrey/Associated Press

The Los Angeles Lakers have yet to make a big splash in the NBA's free-agency period, as they look to rebuild a franchise that isn't used to being bottom-dwellers.

They still have their sights set on a number of targets and will be in talks for plenty of available all-star talent.

Continue below for some of the latest updates on some of Los Angeles' top priorities.

I don't want Aldridge .... I don't want Rondo.... I want young and exciting.

LA is not winning a championship in the next two years and by the time they could be back in the hunt a player like Aldridge will only have a couple of years left... He knows this and for that reason alone he won't sigh with the Lakers.

What is pathetic is that the Lakers can't figure this out....... how dam stupid can a single group of people be and now the pity meeting to try to save face.

The Laker organization is an embarrassment to its self.

The whole Buss family needs to go from operations, they are destroying the brand their father build in just three short years.... Jennie needs to attend to her Phil, Jimmy needs to go back and play with horses and both need to clip coupons and sit on a Laker BoD and let some real basketball people run this team.

To rebuild the brand the Buss kiddos need to go away.

Bring back Jerry West to run the organization as CEO, Mitch can stay, but get some other respected basketball people involved and I'm not talking about former players. This is a billion dollar business that needs to act like one.

Example- apply the same standard to the Laker FO as you do players. If Jimmy, Jennie and other Buss kids were to seek FO jobs with other teams based on their talents who would hire them? NO ONE........

I'm sad for the Jerry Buss legacy ... His leaving his children in charge was his blind spot but not an uncommon one.

Lakers should cancel the LA meeting now... walk away and stop this sad desperate and needy show.

LaMarcus Aldridge meets with Lakers a second time
Sam Amick, USA TODAY Sports 7:53 p.m. EDT July 2, 2015

(Photo: Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports)

Behold "LA to LA, Part 2."

Because no place does sequels to bad movies like Hollywood.

Free agent forward LaMarcus Aldridge made the surprising decision to meet with the Los Angeles Lakers for a second time on Thursday afternoon, only this time he means business – about basketball. Clearly, the Lakers know now, that's how he wanted it in the first place.

It was less than two days ago when Aldridge's free agency frenzy began with an evening meeting in Los Angeles, one that included everyone from Lakers president and governor Jeanie Buss to Kobe Bryant to officials from the AEG company that owns part of the team and the building it plays in. Not counting the reps from AEG and the Time Warner company that telecasts Lakers games (head count unknown), there were eight people in the room with Aldridge and his representatives

Free agent LaMarcus Aldridge meets with Lakers for second time

By Sportal

In this meeting, only Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak and coach Byron Scott met with LaMarcus Aldridge and his representatives.
LaMarcus Aldridge is keeping his options open during his free agency, and that includes another meeting with the Lakers on Thursday, USA Today reported.
This time, only Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak and coach Byron Scott were in the room with Aldridge and his representatives. The purpose of the second meeting was for Aldridge, Kupchak and Scott to focus on the game itself and how he would fit into the lineup, rather than the hullabaloo that surrounded the first meeting.

Reportedly, Kobe Bryant and Aldridge didn't gel very well, and Lakers owner Jeanie Buss' incessant tweets drew a bombardment of fans begging Aldridge to come to Los Angeles (Snoop Dogg and Adam Levine included).
