Rooting for Maddie Mastro in the woman's half-pipe tonight. She's the cousin of a really good friend and colleague. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

I feel obligated to watch, but the majority of NBC’s time is spent on human interest stories or commercials. And then they only show you the part of the event that they want you to see instead of the whole thing. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Thats the network NBC channel. The rest of the channels show their events in their entirety. The main NBC channel is focused primarily on American athletes.

Disastrous Olympics so far for Mikaela Shiffrin.
I felt really bad for her when she was doing her interview in teh aftermath. She stepped up in a vulnerable moment and braved the situation while still obviously still processing her disappointment. Twice she clearly turned to leave after answering the interviewer's questions, but with class and poise she caught herself and stuck with it. If the guy interviewing her had any decency, he would have caught that and thanked her for taking the time to talk to him rather than prolonging it. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

This is by far the least I've ever been interested in watching an Olympics, winter or summer. I've watched the figure skating and I watched the USA vs. Canada in women's hockey, and I'll watch the rematch in the Gold medal game, assuming they both get there (and they are so far ahead of the rest of the world in women's hockey). Other than that, I have very little interest, and the pros aren't playing in men's hockey, so I couldn't care less about that.
USA gets its first gold medal of the games. Lindsey Jacobellis in her 5th Olympics, finally gets gold in snowboard cross. You may remember her from the 2006 Winter Games where she did a trick before the finish and crashed out and ended up in 2nd.
Team figure skating medal ceremony at Beijing Olympics delayed amid reports of failed Russian drug test

The winners in the team figure skating competition at the Beijing Olympics still have not received their medals, with reports saying the delay has been caused by a positive drug test from one member of the gold-winning Russian team.
The ceremony to award the Russian team the gold medals, the United States silver and Japan bronze was pulled from its scheduled slot late Tuesday. The International Olympic Committee said Wednesday that "legal issues" were holding up the presentation.
Reporters asked the Kremlin about the issue Wednesday amid speculation that the gold medals won by six Russian skaters could be at risk.

geez why would figure skating need to dope up? They need to just do a full Russian ban and not this fake one to send a message. _________________ (bleep) Kawhi

Its a golden day for team USA.
Chloe Kim wins gold in women's halfpipe.
Nathan Chen wins gold in men's figure skating.
Chen was nearly flawless! Just one slight bobble on a landing or he would've reached his personal best in the free skate. As it is, he still won easily. And his performance was by far the most entertaining. So well done!

I have a good friend who is Russian-American (and was actually born in Moscow and his family moved here when he was a toddler), and he was quick to point out to me that when news of this first broke, it was described that the banned drug was not a performance-enhancer. To which I told him, that's the exact same way that they described it when Maria Sharapova first tested positive for a banned substance. It aids in increasing blood flow to the heart, which essentially makes it easier to breathe when you're doing something strenuous. That's why it's banned lol.
Even if she genuinely wasn't taking it for nefarious reasons -- which is a stretch -- she should still be banned from the women's figure skating competition that starts on February 15, as she would be skating with a banned substance in her body which could give her an unfair advantage. They need to strip the ROC of the gold medal for the team event and Valieva should not be allowed to compete further at these Games.

Done. For these Olympics, ROC is Russian Olympic Committee. Taiwan’s competing under “Chinese Taipei” as required by China, unfortunately they came away empty-handed.

You're not kidding man. I read a thorough breakdown of the whole situation elsewhere and all I have to say is the Russian coach should be banned for life.
