Lakers Shorthanded in Utah

For the second consecutive game, the Lakers will be without the services of all three of their preseason free agent acquisitions for Wednesday’s contest in Utah: Troy Murphy (gastroenteritis); Josh McRoberts (sprained left big toe); and Jason Kapono (personal).

That McRoberts will miss a sixth straight game was expected, though he did travel with the team to continue to rehabilitate his toe. Murphy was hoping to join the team in Salt Lake City but remains sick, while Kapono will stay in Los Angeles with his wife and their brand new twin girls, born on Tuesday at Cedars-Sinai Hospital.

Helping to fill the collective void in Tuesday’s win over Phoenix was Luke Walton, who played mostly power forward while amassing six points, eight rebounds (five offensive), three assists and a steal in 26 minutes. Steve Blake, meanwhile, had eight assists off L.A.’s bench, the most he’s had since joining the Lakers prior to last season (previous: seven @ N.Y. on 2/11/11).

Metta World Peace could also see some action at the power forward slot, where he pitched in against Phoenix, grabbing some of his seven rebounds.

I don't know all the details, but McBob's toe is getting pretty annoying. Kobe is playing without a tendon in the wrist of his shooting hand. How long is it going to take for McBob's toe to feel better?

It's a sprained big toe from what I understand. Last I heard he could be back by the end of this week. Hopefully Friday or Saturday.

Gotta get McRoberts toe healthy. I hope this doesn't become a lingering problem. How did his toe get screwed up? I hope it was caused by someone stepping on it and not by normal use. If normal use he's screwed.

Not really, he did sya he has never had a serious injury that caused him to miss games before.. so thats something.. I for one am happy he takes the time to get it completly healed.. If he gets back early and messes it up again does us no good..

The Lakers have to suck it up and come home with a win. The team is struggling with a new system and a new coach. In addition they lost Odum and have several new players. On top of all this Kolbe is hurt. However I think the Lakers have enough talent to excel this year. A win tonight will be another step toward a great season.

You know Kobe is going for 50 tonight. He's like a crackhead when it comes to these scoring binges. I just hope he keeps it in the offense...

McBob's injury happened during an actual game (I remember it, he came down and was gimpy a bit), I can't remember which. He basically played thru it for 1-2 more games. Then LA has sat him ever since. I'm guessing it's an injury you can play thru but the LA docs decided it's much worse to attempt that. He's a big after all, feet injuries are twice as serious. Just ask Yao.

Might explain Karl Malone's longevity in Utah or lack thereof outside of SLC.
