Gin Sushi in Pasadena... well, I don't think it's the best, but it's really good and cheap. My gf and I went there for dinner and spent about $20. Incredible. Never happens. And, like I said, it's good. Probably an 8.5 out of 10. _________________ MTFBWYA

I agree not the greatest but excellent for the price.

Sigh, my wife went vegan so now won't even do sushi with me, which means I don't have sushi as often as I used to.
But we are eating a lot more vegan/vegetarian Indian now.
I know this is SoCal sushi, but if you ever get to Boston, Sato II has really nice sushi. _________________ Courage doesn't always roar.

Best deal on Sushi in the united states is hands down Sushi Land. They don't have restaurants in California but if you are ever in Washington or Oregon go.

I go to this place called "WOW Bento". The sushi is good and the price is excellent. It's off the 210 Pensylvania exit in La Crescenta. Korean owned but good to go. _________________ The best game in the whole world!

They have above average sushi for ridiculously low prices. Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail, all $1.50 a plate. Crazy cheap.
Considering most of the fish is raw, skimping on quality is the last thing I'd ever consider doing. Sushi should never be that cheap unless it's been dropped on the floor a half dozen times. It seems half of the reviews I've read from there are down right awful. Just a friendly caution for anyone who was interested in going.
I cant remember the name but the place on the corner of Coldwater and Ventura, I think its Ahi Sushi, also really good. _________________ 2009 NBA CHAMPIONS!!!
Octopus in Burbank (near Media Center). Excellent sushi and always fresh.
I'll have to check that place out. Whenever we want sushi, we do Kabuki. It's good, but I've had better.
I'm not a huge sushi person, so I haven't been around enough to try all the best spots. But the best sushi I've had is at a place called Miya Sushi in North Hollywood/Valley Village (corner of Magnolia and Laurel Canyon). It's in a strip mall. They're closed on Mondays and not open for lunch on Saturdays.
Also my wife swears by Crazy Tokyo which is a small place in the same spot as Jerry's Deli in Woodland Hills (on Ventura between Canoga and Topanga). _________________ Game recognize game, Granddad. - Riley Freeman, The Boondocks
The best sushi place in LA is hands down: Yotsuya.
It's a hidden gem and the place is not too crowded. The owner/chef personally picks the fish from the fish market every day so the fish is guaranteed to be fresh. I like to sit at the sushi bar where it's chef's choice.. meaning you sample different selections that they choose.
They don't serve california rolls here for obvious reasons.
I am suffering the depressive effects of Chef Nozawa's retirement. Was hoping to see some actual good suggestions here but have found none unfortunately.

I just want to be the first to say that Kabuki is terrible.
Decent for the price, and the rolls are okay, but the fish quality is the definition of mediocre. And they never have fatty tuna or giant clam in stock for whatever reason.
There's a place called Noshi's near Koreatown that is great. Also, if you go to the Japanese market, they sell all sorts of sashimi there, including all the top types. Quality is excellent and you save a ton of money.
The only downside is that it comes in blocks, so you have to bring it home and slice it yourself. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
