The big Western Conference series against the Nuggets, Mavs, Spurs never happened. Instead we got a young Thunder that pushed us another year of dominating the Jazz and the Suns as are big WCF battle. Obviously a Celtics series will wake everyone up.

A lot of fans at the start of the season felt that it would come down to us & the Celtics in an epic battle. The best has been saved for last!

The Lakers don't need intensity to beat these mediocre scrub teams they've been matched up against..

They're truely unworthy of a full effort..

I really question if Boston will require a full effort as well.. as they look broken down and completely exhausted and old...

on the bright side, there's no excuse for not finishing them off on their floor.. which will be beautiful to watch..

I think the overall results have had some surprises:

-Jazz lose Okur and AK and end up beating a Nuggets team with HCA; a team many were expecting to rematch the Lakers in the WCF
-Mavs become the West #2 seed but lose in the first round (Mavs choking is nothing new, but still some pinned them as the best of the West)
-The Spurs, after being hailed the "best 7 seed in the history of the NBA" a series before, are humbly swept by the Suns the following round
-Speaking of the Suns, this is a team through the course of the season people wrote off as first round fodder, and yet they make it to the WCF

-Celtics, many thought they were done and would possibly lose their first round, but end up going to the Finals, winning 2 series without HCA
-Cavs don't make it out of the 2nd round. Despite having a supposed deeper team than last season they end up exiting the playoffs earlier
-Magic go on a tear in the first 2 rounds, swiftly get put in place by the Celtics

I think what's interesting this year is a lot of series ended up having 1 team (sometimes the underdog) with a huge matchup advantage for whatever reason and they ended up winning fairly convincingly. Some of the games themselves were boring because of this, but I really doubt many predicted a lot of these results beforehand.

blow-outs... lebron out... some subpar teams int he east... underachieving teams in the west... and add to that, i think with the exception of a few teams like the Lakers, the NBA is in transition... old contender fading (Spurs), young teams not quite there yet (OKC, Chicago), and a lot of interest in the FA situation pulling fans of respective teams into those discussions instead of the playoffs now that their teams are out.

really, it's a combination of things. But when the Lakers and Celtics start the battle, it will all come back.

I told you the Celtics would be the favorites going into it. Especially since the Lakers have stumbled a bit against the Suns. Look for the Celtics to be the media favorites.

What's the +/- on the amount of times the media will say "The Lakers are soft"?

They won't be if we don't play soft. Soft remark can only be used if Lakers are losing/being punked like in 2008.

Or when the suns hack and foul our bigs which causes the ball to slip loose in the air and we are credited with turnovers. Then on the other end, Bynum and Gasol will jump straight up, contest or block shots, but get called for fouls.

It's pretty hard to get excited about basketball when the refs are doing so much of the work.

That would be the PERFECT end to a perfect career..

Suck it Boston... you're done and you know it...

That would be funny!!

also... in the other major sports markets (NY and Chicago) there are other things going on. NY is occupied with Lebron speculation and the Yankees regular season. They are always fanatical but coming off a WS, fans are more dialed in. And in Chicago, the town is amuck over the Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup Finals.

I dunno if this is a huge factor, but together with the other things already mentioned here, it doesn't help.
