They both hired great lawyers. The trust was simply in her favor. Siblings fighting over the trust agreement is almost a guarantee on trusts this large. Trust attorneys write them in a way that makes it nearly impossible for the beneficiaries to challenge them without forfeiting their interest.

Quote:
Jim, Johnny and Jeanie were the three trustees of the trust. The brothers had planned to hold a meeting to elect a new board of directors for the Lakers that didn’t include Jeanie. Not being a director would have meant Jeanie can’t be the controlling owner of the Lakers, which would have violated the trust’s mandate that all trustees “take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure the appointment of [Jeanie] as controlling owner.” That led Jeanie to file a temporary restraining order against her brothers to prevent them from holding that meeting.

Quote:
The ill-fated takeover attempt cost Jim Buss his spot as a co-trustee for the four trusts through which the Buss family own 66% of the team.

According to a person familiar with the situation, Jim Buss resigned as co-trustee Thursday as part of a requirement by Jeanie Buss to resolve the dispute. Her younger sister and staunch ally, Janie, replaced the brother, joining Jeanie and Johnny Buss as co-trustees.

The person said there was no financial settlement with Jim Buss.

If he had not consented to the arrangement, attorneys for Jeanie Buss were prepared to ask the court to remove him as co-trustee. The agreement means the probate court trial scheduled for May 15 to resolve the matter won’t happen.

Instead of the Greens and the Blacks, this is like the Purple and Gold version of The House of the Dragon

Haha, I need to catch up on Season 1.

And as far as Jeanie not having the smarts to battle Jimmy, Jimmy is a long haired drug addict who dropped out of USC. Jeanie actually got her degree. Jim is not a sharp knife.

And as an aside, when I was in Organic Chemistry 201 at USC, the professor put up some research about carbon bonds, perhaps alkenes, I don't recall exactly, and asked if we recognized the name of the publisher. It was Jerry Buss. That was a smart man. I think he was smart enough to draft a trust that is not flimsy and is hard to break.

Edit: I found his paper: “The Thermodynamics of Bromination of Toluene and the Heat of Formation of the Benzyl Radical”.

Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss was “genuinely disappointed” that the franchise was unable to land UConn Huskies head coach Dan Hurley as its next head coach, according to a report from The Athletic.

If DH didn't want to accept a good offer for one who never coached or had experience in the NBA for one of the most prestigious/storied professional sports franchises then F-em.

We want someone who at least wants to be here ....

i don't know how an offer can be good if it's a paycut for more responsibility. people who "want to be here" have been fired every 2 years here

Yeah to be fair this is what she was known for and excelled at. Just funny because now that’s all it is now. A business.

Still the only mistake Jeanie made was marrying Jay "Show me the money" Mohr.

This is just stupid. There is nothing wrong with Jeanie. The Lakers are a legit team and if they had been healthy might have made it to the Conference finals again. This year's team was banged up but was better than last year's team. They won the in season tournament. They dumped a terrible coach. They drafted a promising rookie. Just stop it.

While I'm at it, there is also nothing wrong with Rob. In the past two years, he has made deals to improve the team and has increased the number of team assets. He has refrained from making stupid in season trades.

The Lakers are much better off than most every franchise. Yeah, LeBron is aging out and AD is not far behind. They do need a young star, but look how long the Celtics had to suck before they got a ring. The Lakers are 4 years away from a ring and they haven't truly sucked since then.
