BTW, I can so close to an eagle on a par 4 myself today.
It was bald and sitting in a tree as I hit my 5th shot onto the green. |
Ha! I've never made an eagle before. Never reached a par-5 in two. But I have come close to driving the green on a short par 4 before.
Of course, I haven't made much of anything since I haven't played golf in probably 3 years. |

I was rooting for DJ to close, especially after the crap that Koepka was talking, but Morikawa was locked in. He had some amazing shots and deserved to win. |

The wind came out of DJ's sails when he inexplicably pulled his 7-iron approach to the par-5 10th long and left, and only made par. He was tied for the lead at the time in that logjam at -10. In the final group, and where that pin was (back left of the green), he shouldn't have attacked that flag. Play the smart shot in the center of the green, take your 2-putt birdie, and you re-take the lead and you're playing in the last group. That's the major championship golf play right there. Put the scoreboard pressure on everyone else. He gave most of the leaders a free shot right there. Never recovered from that. |

Rory is alway a class dude. He stood up for DJ after Brooks's shot at him, and he did this on Friday, which I think few golfer these days would:

Yes, I think everyone other than Caroline Wozniacki thinks very highly of Rory. |

JT starts strong with a 5 under round 1!

His name is still a draw but it looks like Tiger's day has passed. He's 3 over 1st round at the US OPEN. Double bogeyed the 13th. He's been inconsistent of late. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

He spent too much time in the deep rough today to be able to flirt with the cut.
JT has had some rough moments, but hung in there and made enough clutch shots to stay right there in contention.
Reed's the most consistent and best player on the course the last couple of days (unfortunately).

IT'S MASTERS WEEK!
It's a bummer there's no Wednesday 3 Par Contest this year, but I'm excited this year's Masters is getting underway tomorrow. It's going to be fun to see how different it is in fall conditions. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Augusta is going to play a bit longer this time, with colder conditions that may also be wetter/more damp. As such, the 5 names I'd draft in a fake top-5 competition are, in no particular order:
DeChambeau
Dustin Johnson
Rahm
Rory
Koepka |

I'm hoping JT can close one out finally, but Rory would be cool. It's going to be interesting to see Bryson's strategy. He was talking about taking radical lines with his drives and hitting into places where normally the gallery would be. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

I actually think Bryson’s big hitting style will be a bit reckless for this course. It’s not been the best start for him. Yeah it’s great to get distance but above all you need to find the fairway. _________________ Lakers, Chargers, Dodgers, Arsenal FC.

JT and Rory are my hopefuls as well. Tiger is playing well through about 8 holes. _________________ You are under no obligation to remain the same person you were a year ago, a month ago, or even a day ago. You are here to create yourself, continuously. - Richard Feynman |

Tiger very often starts so-so or poorly. A first round 68 is a great sign for him. |

Justin Thomas is on fire, but watch out for SDSU Alum Xander Schauffele as this might be his time.
I think either JT or XS wins it this year, but love seeing Tiger in the mix. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |
