Don’t disagree with him. But also can’t help but feel like he’s a little jealous of Lebron.

Durant especially, a player likely to crack the mythical 30,000 points mark, has plenty to gain in all-time discussions should the Warriors win, so history has often been a topic of conversation for Durant. The reigning Finals MVP spoke with Vince Carter about history and historic players and was asked which players he would have loved to have played in the Finals, and while choosing Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan as his answer isn’t all that surprising, another tidbit he added to his answer may shock some.

“It’s a tie between MJ and Kob,” Durant said. “Two guys that I think are a head above everybody else that’s ever played the game. Just their will to win is something that’s contagious, and it makes you a better player as an opponent as well.”

A glaring omission from that short list is of course, Durant’s Finals opponent this year LeBron James. This is the third time Durant and James have faced off in the Finals, each earning 4-1 series wins over the other. Durant and Bryant have locked horns in the playoffs before as well, with Bryant’s Lakers sweeping Durant’s Thunder in 2010, and Durant responding by beating the Lakers 4-1 in 2012.

It might have meaning if he had seen some of the other greats play but he hasn’t so who cares what he thinks.

He played against all-time great players. That's all he needs to have an opinion more credible than yours.

I think KD would beat anyone 1 on 1. That includes MJ, Kobe, Kareem, Shaq, and others. Just think he can guard pretty much anyone while go around or shoot above everyone.

I thought about that too but MJ and Kobe's footwork + the fade-a-way would get them over the top.

every single time you ask a player who has played with or against kobe/lebron during their eras(KD only caught the later part of kobe's era). You get the same answer. "Kobe and Jordan would never let you off the hook, they were relentless." The hell with the stats. the were relentless. Meaning LBJ as great as he is, and he is great. He isnt relentless. Now he's getting to that point since he's getting to the point of age where he no longer cares what anyone thinks. but he was not always like that. KD knows this. cause KD is from LBJ's era as well even though he's younger. This generation cares to some degree TOO MUCH about what others think. They need that validation more than any other era I've seen prior. I think this will eventually come back to a norm once the entire social media thing gets old and is no longer a big deal. It's just like picking up the phone was to us.

And some people are just not born that way. everyone isnt relentless like that. and thats a good thing. there's more than one way to win a few rings. but game recognizes game. You know how good you are in comparison to other nba players and you realize its beyond skill/size/athleticism. This guy named kobe mentally is tougher than you. You KNOW THIS. If you asked lebron to take a lie detector test and ask on the court who was mentally tougher,, You or Kobe? he would either lie and say himself and we would all know he was lying or he would answer kobe and we would know he was telling the truth.

Wilt was relentless, Cap was relentless, I.thomas was relentless, Magic with a smile on his face was relentless, Jordan was relentless(pippen with all of his talent was not relentless cause if he were he would've been better than jordan...jordan admitted to this in a few interviews about pip when they were still playing), Reggie Miller was relentless, Tmac was not relentless in his prime because he would allow kobe to stop him from scoring after he just dropped 30 in the first half. you can't be relentless if you wont continue and finish what you started.

There's a reason kobe had more points than the mavs that night. thats relentless. I'm going to kill you until the game is well in hand and its over with.

No need for a lie detector

With CP3's injury history, he probably would've torn something before the Finals....

Might be. but with Kobe sharing the load of playmaking, it might have saved some legs for him.

But oh well...

Yep that is the biggest thing, Kobe had a ridiculous burden his last couple years. Plus I've always been interested in seeing how he'd do with another all star guard since he's never had one.

Judging from how excited he was to learn about CP3 coming to Lakers, we could see how Kobe would play off the ball more and focus more on defense better with extra energy absorbed by CP3 playmaking. Scoring burden would be shared but interestingly I think Kobe would have scored more efficiently with CP3.

lol. if you dont disagree with him why add in the last part? it doesnt make sense. I'm not jealous that you are being praised incorrectly(he deserves praise but how much?) I'm just stating the facts as they are.

You wish he were jealous ring

and how is the guy that has 5 rings a three peat and a back to back title jealous of a guy who goes to the big dance a lot and loses a lot as well? the only jealousy that really isnt real jealousy is for western conference players who had to battle thru the west all year long then kill themselves thru the western conf playoffs to get to the finals vs the weak east. like how many finals appearances could kobe have had with his same teams placed in the leasetern conference?
at kobe is jealous.

and you would be wrong.

If lebron was a natural scorer and not a natural passer who is built to score. no one could ever stop lebron from scoring but he could also lock you up due to his length/athleticism/and strength.
Kd has the length and athleticism....for his size

LBJ has all of those things + strength and it's not ...for his size. he's a hyper athletic guy no matter how big or small he could've been.

kobe would beat both of them more times than they would beat him in 1 v 1 games.

what prime kobe had over durant. strength and there's no refs to bail you out. handles. prime kobe, we're talking 81 and 62 in 3 kobe would score on anyone that has ever played the game including KD and bron. and last but not least what kd was talking about kobe being relentless. KD is a heck of a shooter/scorer especially for that height/length. but he is not as relentless as kobe.

This is something a lot of people that have never played basketball against nba level players may never truly get. I've seen it with my own eyes playing against guys that were a lot less capable than kobe but these guys have played or still played in the nba. When they go at you, they wont stop. for a defender it gets very tiring, not just physically but mentally. if you watch kobe's detail show you realize basketball is truly Chess. moves and counter moves, thinking ahead, knowing your opponent, etc. imagine how much thinking you have to do in order to constant try to stop a nba level player, then think about a clutch role player, then think about a borderline allstar(LO level player), then think about an allstar, then think about a superstar, then think about a mega star top 5 to 10 to ever do it.) now think about how crazy kobe was about basketball and dissecting his opponent. he's just constantly going at you in different ways and waves, over and over and over and over and over again. "no way this guy is going to try to go baseline again." yep. he went baseline , let me hurry up and cut it off, you cut it off, then bam he stops on a dime and does a turn around jumper. the moment you think you figured that out after getting toasted 3 times in a row. he does a spin fake, spin back step thru. AND 1. now the frustration is starting to set in.
