Exactly. He is not just coming here to coach. I assume he is going to have that Popovich, Kerr, Spoelstra type of authority on personnel moves. No doubt...

Those guys have earned it, Hurley has earned nothing. NBA personnel is where having no NBA experience will be a negative.

You make it seem like Hurley is a scrub. Dude is as good as any great coach in the league. He won’t be merely the coach ala Ham. He will have some authority and rightfully so. If you are coming in to build a program, then he HAS to have some say. No brainer there.

Keep in mind, if he wins another national title this year, he would be the only coach other than the great John Wooden to do so. So, again, he HAS earned a lot and not “nothing” like you stated.

No, I’m making it seem that he has no NBA experience, which is factual. The college and pro businesses are very different and he would need to learn the differences. You can say that he’s as great as any coach in the league but that isn’t factual since he’s never been a coach in the league. I get the shiny new toy excitement but I’ll wait to see what actually happens before declaring him great or a bust. If he does move up into the NBA.

He’s going to get an $100 million dollar contract and rightfully so. Totally deserved. If he’s given the keys to build something, he’s going to flourish. He comes from an amazing pedigree of basketball minds from college to family. That’s why he’s a hot ticket. No doubt he kicks asses and takes names in the NBA from day one.

Does everyone else see what’s happening here? Some posters will now slowly move from “front office incompetence” to “they wasted their money on an unproven inexperienced coach.”

Anything to keep the ******* on the franchise narrative they have created in their own minds.

Tiny minds at that.

If you think I posted that then you need to step up your reading comprehension game. Hurley is not in the Popovich, Spo, Kerr stratosphere. He could be eventually but this is more reminiscent of hiring Calipari and giving him personnel power. Let him grow into the role.

It affects the Buss kids’ bottom line, that is why $100 million is such a surprise. I’m not sure that Doc would ever do that.

So instead of $159M in profits, they'll make $142M in profits.

Plus we have some potentially lean years coming. Im not sure how much less money they made during the tank years, but I think part of the hope is that having a legitimate long term coach with a vision will help them make that money up during the lean years that are likely to be right around the corner.

I’d take that.

Jesse Buss is presently the assistant GM. What has he done or prevented.

Let us know how telling your professional superior that they are wrong on something has gone in your career.

It worked well for me, saved a lot of lives and paperwork. Jesse Buss is part owner of the Lakers. I’m sure he’s not afraid to speak to Rob, and say this is not the right direction.

$100 million wow.

And they just couldn't give Lue an additional year or two and the ability to choose his own staff before?

Reading between the lines, it seems we have an AD and JJ Redick beef going on now since Redick didn't vote for AD for any defensive awards.

And now AD is blocking JJ from the Lakers job.

There's no other Laker player with the power to tell brass what to do re: the head coach.

Just time to give UConn an opportunity to beat it, then the Lakers an oppourtunity to beat that, until one side taps out.

UConn isn’t coming anywhere close to $100M.

For reference, the biggest deal ever for a college coach is Bill Self who makes $9.6M/yr on a 5yr/$53M deal.

Also Goodman hasn't been really reliable for a while. I just remember he was close with the Ball family during Zos college days

Goodman is not the source. The source came from here. https://x.com/TheFieldOf68/status/1799200599298158771
