More likely he'll leave in free agency this summer, because the Lakers won't want to pay for a non-star. |

Wouldn’t that be better for Reaves? I am happy for him |

Seems like Ham (maybe unintentionally with Lebron out) is realizing that Reaves is the glue of this team.
Part of why Vogel lost his job was he didn’t stick with Reaves. Benched him in favor of guys currently out of the NBA
Edit: hopefully they aren’t too stupid to make the Caruso mistake again and this would be way worse because Reaves is miles ahead of AC on the offensive end. |

Which will be the Lakers downfall for years to come. Instead of keeping continuity and retaining players that make the Lakers machine go well, they will just keep getting mercenaries on vet mins, and go after overrated “stars” in the name of having a big 3.
What the Lakers should do? Keep guys like Reaves and Walker around for a long time, and build a foundation with that and keep drafting and building.
There is some actual pieces on this team to play with when the roster gets more balanced in height and positions. But of course, this is Rob we are taking about. _________________ Darvin Scam: https://media.tenor.com/images/3c15249955860a4b16b59e8ae035fb75/tenor.gif |

I think he will be restricted, so we can match the market if we extend a QO _________________ “God knew they couldn’t be on this Earth without each other. He had to bring them home to have them together.” – Vanessa Bryant |

We have the Arenas provision rights with him and I think also if he doesn't start more than 40 games, his cap hold will be smaller. Lakers should be able to retain him. |

Hmmmm, interesting. So after tonight, that would make it 6 games he has started.
Lakers have played 15 games. So the Lakers would have to bench Reaves 35 more games this season?
Does this also include postseason games or no? _________________ Darvin Scam: https://media.tenor.com/images/3c15249955860a4b16b59e8ae035fb75/tenor.gif |

In addition to what @twisted & @DB said, if dude gets a ridiculous offer from another team, we can match it, but it will create a poison pill contract situation. For example, if a team offers him his true max (ie 25% max of 34m per for 4yrs), we could use his early bird exception (non hard cap route) or the ntpMLE (hard cap route) to match the offer. However it would lead to a contract structure as such:
Yr1: 11.6m
Yr2: 12.2m
Yr3: 54.9m
Yr4: 57.3m
= 4yr/136m aka poison pill contract
But here’s the thing, we actually have cap space next summer and could open up 34m in room to actually match the offer sheet without using the Gilbert Arenas provision and in effect avoid loading our cap sheet with a poison pill contract.
And need say, no team submits an offer, we can keep Reaves at his early bird rate of ~12.5m as a capped out team OR offer him up to his max of 34m per as a cap space team.
As for the “starter criteria”, it was posted earlier in this thread, but here it is again with updated numbers:
Quote: | Re: “starter criteria” involving his qualifying offer/caphold next summer impacting our available cap space:
As of now, he only counts as 2.1m on our books next summer, but if dude starts in at least 41 games or plays at least 2000 minutes, his caphold gets bumped up by meeting “starter criteria” aka ~6.2m caphold.
Right now, dude has started in 5 game and played 386mins total. With Russ heading to the bench until a trade for him is executed, Reaves is looking to go into that starter territory. If that’s the case, expect roughly 4m cutting into our potential space next summer. |
Also, starter criteria is based off regular season stats and not the postseason. _________________ Not familiar with the salary cap/CBA rules & how it impacts our Lakers?

Not sure how long Austin can sustain this, but so far in the season the three players* who have shooting splits of 50-40-90:
Steph Curry
SGA
Austin Reaves
*accounting for all players who average at least 2 ft attempts and 2 three pt attempts a game. |

Dude is a starter, he always know when the bigs are rolling and where the open 3s are, and then the defensive reads, good guy Danny Ainge |

Am I the only one who thinks Reaves makes PatBev expandable? Is his defense that much inferior to PatBev? I think it’s close |

Production-wise there's no comparison, Reaves all the way, but Beverly has the Rondo role on this team this year, it's really up to Ham whether he thinks that's important enough to keep PatBev around or not. |

The whole team looked bad, Austin included... I don't remember you speaking out in support of him.
He looked passive and uninvolved so I was one who said he looked like he hadn't improved.
But I've always liked the kid and am happy he's rising to the challenge.
It's funny that every time Matt Ryan plays it looks like he's always missing but he's still shooting threes at 38%.
Reminds me of what KCP used to do, except without the defense. |

I’m trying to think of a more modern NBA player comp. Maybe Tony Parker? but obvs Austin’s not there yet. |

don't think that is close to his comp at all, if anything, he is a little more like Manu. |
