We complain about it, joke that a player's 3 ball dies here..but what's the reason we aren't better from outside? I get that bad shooters aren't going to increase dramatically just from being open, but is it coaching? Pressure? Practice?

It's because they expend so much energy on the defensive side.

Interesting article from the Ringer:

Quote:
But today, I come not to pile on to the Lakers’ heap of misery. (Well, other than reciting all those sorry stats to set the scene.) Rather, I come to offer positive glimmers for Lakers fans. Because hiding under the grim surface stats, there are hints for hope in a coming turnaround. Here are five reasons to expect the Lakers’ offensive performance to improve, as well as a look at what this anticipated boost might mean for the team’s ultimate fortunes.

1. They have an excellent shot profile.

Especially this early in a new season, I like to look at a team’s process more than its results. The former is more under a team’s control; the latter is subject to all sorts of small-sample flukes. And according to Second Spectrum’s shot-quality model, which estimates the expected effective field goal percentage of every shot based on factors like location and defender distance, the Lakers have the best shot profile in the league.

This reminds me of the line, "There's a reason why you're always wide open."

Quick glance at the stats ...

Seems to actually be Lebron ... he's been the vol three pt shooter on the team with most 3PA in the season so far while shooting at career low of 22% (12/53). He ended last season with about 36%. If he had maintained that, Lakers as a team would average about 30% right now, instead of 27%.

No one else is helping, obviously. Russ is 5/24 (21%) and Pat Bev is 4/21 (19%). The next vol shooter behind LeBron is Walker, at a slightly better 12/53 (30%).

But I trust LeBron to figure it out sooner than later. Hopefully rest of the team will follow.

Bad at wide open 3’s?

Do you mean making them or defending them. Both are an issue.

A. Put on a Laker uniform
B. Drop your 3pt percentage by 10-15%

Or

A. You’re Rob Pelinka
B. Proceed to make baffling moves year after year.

The last 7 games of November, the Lakers have been shooting 35% from 3. The Lakers started out so bad at 3s that they're still at 30% and last in the league.

Glad the shooting is picking up.

We need the leaders to start knocking down their 3s. Westbrook has, AD doesn't shoot 3s but LeBron hasn't. I think if the top guys making it, the role players would follow

I guarantee that if Curry put on a Laker uniform, his 3pt% would drop 10% points.

There’s definitely something about being a Laker, making players worse shooters. Whether it’s anything to do with the arena itself, pressure from being a Laker (kinda like pressure of being a Yankee in baseball. Kenny Rogers is the poster boy example of this), or both.

Some players can handle it, others can’t.
