PostPosted: Mon Oct 03, 2022 9:28 pm    Post subject: Lakers 2022-23 Lineup talk

Hey guys. Now that game 1 of preseason is over, let's get into some lineup talks. Who would you start? Who would you give minutes too.

Also, if you're interested in playing a little game where the prize is recognition as the Best Lineup Constructor on LG, here it is:

How to play?
Before game 1 of the regular season, select your top 10 players in order who you think will have the most minutes played on the Lakers this year. At the end of the season, we'll see who the top 10 minutes played Lakers are, and whoever has the top 10 (or the most matched players) you'll be awarded the title as Best Lineup Constructor! For tie breakers we'll order the roster by most minutes played and see who gets closest to the order.

1. Start your post with "lineup contest" if you're interested.
2. Any post with edits will be discarded. So add a new post when you finalize your minutes lineup.
3. Post must be timestamped before the start of the regular season Game 1.
4. Make sure to list players in the order of who you think will have played the most minutes (for the tie breaker).
5. List only 10 players.

It's early, but it might be:

Russell Westbrook
Anthony Davis
Lebron James
Lonnie Walker
Pat Beverley
Austin Reaves
Kendrick Nunn
Damian Jones
Thomas Bryant
Wenyen Gabriel

WB . Pat
Nunn . Lonnie
Lebron . Austin
AD . Gabriel
Jones . Bryant

Freaking visa issues broke my roster and he wasn't on the list I was using.
Thanks for the catch.
I will need to rethink this...

I'm interested in how you'd set up the lineup.

Kind of want to see how brown and walker plays first. This might be a tough year for Reaves, we have way too many guards.
Not too hot on wenyen. We will see AD at 5 minutes too, so either wenyen/Bryant/jones will be the end of the bench guy.
I hope we can find some minutes for swider though. Best shooter on the team by a mile.

That logjam at the PG spot will be creating a lot of unbalance line-up this season.

Russ
Nunn
Lebron
AD
Bryant

Bev
Schro
Walker
Reaves
Brown
Jones
Toscano
Grabriel

To fill 4 spots... Since one of Lebron and AD will be always on the floor.

True. We need to see the guys who didn't get to play yesterday because Dennis and Lonnie will probably see minutes this year.

The lack of taller wings is no joke.
It's gonna be tough to predict who gets the minutes this year, but I hope you join the contest.

One thing I saw last night was that we desperately need playmaking off the bench. DS will be huge for us this season. I’m concerned about our centers. Gabriel played bigger than Bryant or Jones Imo

Russ
Nunn
Bron
AD
Bryant

DS
Bev
JTA
Gabriel

No clue how walker fits in right now but i think he takes minutes away from JTA. We have some strange depth and I’m guessing that matchups will determine who plays more on a nightly basis. However, I think these are our best 9. From what I saw from Jones I don’t think he can last as our starting 5 all season. We should just embrace small ball and play Gabriel there.

Man I feel you... I'm hoping Ham does not follow Vogel when it comes to line-up changes every game. Our PG/SG log jam is already starting to show. Going to be hard to keep Russ/Bev/Nunn/Schro/Walker out of the line-up to start the season.

I feel for Ham... he's in a no win position trying to be the guy to turn things around whiles he's been given the worst balanced roster quite possibly ever. He's already found out DJ and Bryant aren't starters or big min guys, we have no shooters, and half the roster is sub 6'4.

Rob really needs to help balance this mess out bc he's struggling to find ways to get get all these guards mins while having no forwards.

Need to trade 1-2 of the PGs... Ham is forced to play small out there. Pretty much have his energy guys like Toscano/Gabriel stuck on the bench.

Russ - They've been trying to trade... no dice
Beverly - Sizable deal and moveable piece but already?
Nunn - Rounding into form would need to be combined with another deal
Walker - Very meh player who can't be traded til Dec
Reaves- Arguably the best of the bunch and tiny contract
Dennis - Value signing but min deal is also tiny/hard to build package around
Christie - project, no trade value, just paid $2m just to draft him

That's 7 guys that are all difficult for one reason or another to move. 6 of them comprise our top 8 players. Get that - 6 of our top 8 players are all 6'4ish guards - most can't shoot, half don't defend, all to small to play SF but yet Ham is forced to.

This group is the main issue Russ/Schro/Nunn/Bev.... If they want to balance the roster. 1-2 of those guys have to go.

Walker/Reaves are fine... Christie won't be in rotation this year.

Russ can be moved. He should be moved.

They need to give up the second first round pick and get it done before he sucks the life out of another season.

Oof. Observations from today's game.

AD and Lebron are AD and Lebron. Not worried about them skill wise. Health is what I worry about and that back seemed to limit AD a bit in how much he could extend. But they had good games.

Westbrook is Westbrook unfortunately. I worry about him as a forward. Minny's SF's length seemed to be an issue for him. And man, stop stepping out of bounds.

Pat is Pat. He'll make some bone head plays. But he also makes positive plays. You just hope he bring more positive than negatives.

Walker was good. I think he'll have streaky games with his shot. But I love his burst in transition and he hasn't been targeted yet on defense. I hope his ankle is ok. C'mon Pat!

This starting lineup is interesting. I don't know if I'd go with this group against Minny when Minny has both Kat and Rudy playing though. I feel we'd get out rebounded big.

Dennis was hilarious for me. You could tell he hasn't been acclimated to the Lakers schemes. He called a switch on defense. Haha, Lakers aren't trying to switch these days, Dennis!

Guys I trust:
AD
Lebron
Pat
Walker
AR

Guys I trust every other game:
Nunn
Dennis
JTA

Guys I don't trust most games:
WB
Bryant
Jones
Gabriel
Swider
Max
Matty Ice

Unknown:
Troy

Ham needs to keep it simple and adjust as the season goes on... You signed two bigs use atleast one of them. No more starting AD at the 5.

Russ (If can't be move) - Start Schro if traded.
Bev
Lebron
AD
Bryant

Nunn/Schro
Walker
Reaves
Toscano/Gabriel with AD or Lebron. Jones depending on match-up.

Reaves and Walker are both good backup guards. Our lack of wings and plethora of guards forces them to play the forward spot which I think both are too small/not strong enough to do. Ideally, it'd look like:

Wing, Wing
Reaves, Walker
Beverly, Nunn

But you can't turn down the min for Dennis and unlike many here on LG, I'm not trading 2 1sts + Russ for Turner and Hield. Rob will ruin this franchise enough where 27 and 29 1sts will be highly valuable.

Crap. I guess they do want to play small.
Lebron I'm not a fan of you guys having to battle for rebounds.

AD just said in his interview he wants to play the 4 and coach knows where he stands on that but if playing the 5 is best for the team, he'll do it.

I don't think AD wants to play the 5 at all but he's come to terms with it.
