|
|
Last year:
1. Suns
2. Grizz
3. Warriors
4. Mavs
5. Jazz
6. Nuggets
7. TWolves
8. Pels
9. Clips
10. Spurs
11. Lakers
12. Kings
13. Blazers
14. OKC
15. Rockets
Out of the 10 teams that made the playoffs/play-in, I think only 2 teams drop out of that completely (Jazz/Spurs).
I think several teams made strong moves to improve their teams and move up.
-Nuggets (Murray back, traded for KCP and signed Brown).
-TWolves (Gobert). I think they will be a monster regular season team.
-Pels (Zion coming back, CJ re-signing)
-Clips (Kawhi back)
-Blazers (Jerami Grant, Dame healed up).
My guess as of now, the top 6 are:
1. Suns (still have their core group sans Crowder).
2. Nuggets (MVP Jokic + Murray, KCP, Brown make them deeper)
3. Clips (if healthy)
4. TWolves (I think they will be tough in the regular season, beatable in playoffs)
5. Warriors (championship malaise)
6. Grizz (will miss Jaren Jackson until December, but they are deep)
The play-in group:
7. Mavs
8. Pels
9. Lakers (if we can make ahem, a move or two)
10. Blazers
Kings may be a factor too as they made some good moves this summer, but I don't see them in the playoffs/play-ins.
Teams that are just giving up: Jazz, Spurs, OKC, Rockets.
The West is truly loaded this season, and I'm worried about our first 10 games where if they mess around, we're looking at a 3-7, 4-6 type of start that will put us in the hole right away.
Where do you honestly think the Lakers will finish this season? _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Opposite Warriors take... they are even better than last season with a healthier Klay and improving Wiggins and Poole. Then there are guys like Wiseman and Kuminga.
Guessing the Lakers end up around 7 or 8. Hard to predict though. |

You did a solid job with your breakdowns. Agree with most of the reasoning.
Teams might move up or down the actual positioning due to injuries, but overall very likely predictions.
Lakers will be a wildcard prediction. If health, chemistry and the breaks go their way I could see them being the “ surprise “ team and be in the mix as high as 5 or 6. Doubt they can manage a top four even if everything goes beyond expectations.
Most likely they fall into most expectations and are mediocre. IMO they will be a play-in team. Hopefully hosting as a 7 or 8 seed. |

Curious to know which teams the Lakers are ahead of in your rankings. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I think the 7-10 range depending on health. Suns, Nuggets, Warriors are the class of the West. Mavs and Memphis should slot in behind them. Depending on health I can see the Clippers being 1-6, them and the Wolves are the unknowns for me. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

I'll go with 4th. Despite all of our negativity over the summer, I think Ham is going to make this work. I may be drinking the Kool-Aid, but I think Ham actually has a plan and actually has the force of personality to get guys to buy in. _________________ Internet Argument Resolved |

Only if many things go their way.
As of now, the lakers are easily 9th.
Can't take the lakers seriously until they address the westbrook problem first. None of the 8 teams ranked above them have to deal with such an issue. |

Great breakdown Yinoma!
A few thoughts of mine.
I agree with Wolves, theyre gonna be a juggernaut in the regular season. However, I won't be afraid to face them in the playoffs.
I think Suns are a question mark due to the drama and I think CP3 will start to show even more age this year.
I also think Memphis may drop because of the Jaren Jackson injury
I think the Lakers and pelicans have a chance to sneak into the top 6 with Phoenix and Memphis maybe falling. |

I heard a new rule that you can't stop a fast break anymore..otherwise its one free throw and the ball.
I wonder how much this will help the Lakers? |

Since WB repeatedly made those “take” fouls instead of playing defense last year I would say it would hurt the Lakers.
Just another bad or lazy habit to be broken. |

Regardless of our seed, what teams worry you the most in a 7 game series? assuming we are as healthy as we could be
the only one that really worries me are the clipped tbh |

Every team is worrisome in the post-season if the lakers remain as constructed currently.
We're not winning a 7-game series easily, if at all, as long as Westbrook is getting major minutes come playoff time. |

I don't know why so many are down on the Lakers. We're not an elite team, but with reasonable health, we're probably around a 6 seed.
We have much better role players, we're MUCH younger, we have a head coach who players will actually listen to, and we still have arguably the best superstar duo in the NBA.
I don't understand why so many on this board think we're, at best, a play-in team. |

Ceiling if everything goes our way, probably 5th seed. But most likely a 7th or 8th seed I think.
Just want to see Laker players being proud putting on the jersey, and actually playing with effort. Anything beyond that is gravy. |

This is why I sat and actually looked at the teams and I have them at 9, or at the very least, in the play-in group.
Make an argument as to why this team, given our roster construct (i.e. too many small guards, not enough big wing depth, lack of 3 point shooting) should be a shoe in for top 6? Many teams in the West got better too. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

The only teams I can see the Lakers moving up on are the Mavs (if Luka is injured, as they are so Luka-centric) and Pels (if Zion is still hurt). Otherwise, I can't see them jumping over the top 6 I listed. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

If we get Myles/Buddy, I can see us being in the 4-7 seed range. Having a big like Myles who can shoot 3s and defend the rim would free AD up to be a roamer on defense and I think he would just destroy in that capacity. Having a true 3 point threat in Buddy would also bolster the team IMO.
I don't think any Utah deal sans Bogs helps us at all at this point. I wouldn't trade for them at this point. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |
