What I’m hoping for is that LeBron signs a 3 or 4 year extension just in time for the Lakers to bring in Bryce James and Bronny James once we find a way to buy picks in the draft.
I hate the fact that LeBron ultimately destroys every franchise that he's been with and then leaves because they aren't good enough to compete for a title.
I never understood this.
The guy has played for three franchises and he won a ring with each of them. He led Cleveland to their only ring. He led Miami to two of the franchises three rings. He brought Cleveland its greatest success in its 50-year history and Miami its greatest success in its 33-year history, yet he "destroyed" the franchises.
Yet ...
He won 2 rings with Miami and they were back in the finals 6 years after he left.
That doesn't seem like a team that was destroyed to me.
He won a ring with Cleveland, and took them to the finals 4 other times. Four years after he left, they are a 44-win team with two all-stars and a bunch of other young players.
That doesn't seem like a team that was destroyed to me.
I don't see how he has destroyed franchises. That just seems to be a cliche without foundation.

I believe that he can only get a 2 year extension due to the over 38 rule. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

Yep, it can’t be longer than a 3 year deal total. On an extension, a minimum of 1yr remains on the existing deal before extending, so in total, a 2yr extension would give Bron a max of 3 total years.
Bron can also go into next summer and ink a new 3yr deal without the over-38 rule impacting our books. So for those that wanna get slick with it by having Bron ink a 4-5yr deal at a lower number so that Ky could fit into our cap space, think again haha.
The criteria in classifying what type of contract falls under the over-38 rule is posted below from Coon’s FAQ. Note that the “zero year” in such contracts means the annual paid that year would be rationed out accordingly to the earlier years in the deal. So Bron at 20m per on a new 5yr deal next summer ain’t going to free up cap space since both yr 4 & 5 would be classified as a zero years in that deal leading to 40m being allocated proportionally among yrs 1-3.
Quote:
Coon FAQ: The following chart indicates what free agent contracts are subject to the Over-38 rule, and which years are zero years. For example, if a 35-year-old Qualifying Veteran Free Agent (a player with full Bird rights) re-signs with his prior team for five seasons, then his contract is classified as Over-38, and the fifth season is considered a zero year. "N/A" indicates that the contract is not considered Over-38 because it is specifically excluded from the Over-38 rule in the CBA.
Code:
Age 4 year contract 5 year contract Nonbird 4yr
34 N/A 5* N/A
35/36 N/A 5 4
36+ 4 4 and 5 4
* If he signs before October 1 and his birthday is October 1 or earlier.
FYI: Cp3 turned 36 in May of 2021. He agreed to a 4yr/120m deal (of which only 75m is fully guaranteed) after using his player option to opt out of his last deal. As a result his new 4yr deal was not classified as an over-38 contract. Only a 5yr deal would have activated a “zero year” in that final 5th season of a hypothetical 4yr extension had he not opted out of his final year in his previous deal. _________________ Not familiar with the salary cap/CBA rules & how it impacts our Lakers?

I feel sorry for those kids.
It’s hard enough when high school kids get overhyped based on their abilities.
Getting overhyped based on who your father is can really send them down a bad path.
All signs point toward both sides looking to extend their partnership together.
Sounds good. Win a couple more rings.
There are no rings in our future with Lebron here. This roster isn’t even close to a title contender now and we have no assets or flexibility to make this a contending team. If we were smart we would turn the page from the Lebron era and move towards this inevitable rebuild. Jeannie wants cheap marketing points with Lebron breaking Kareem’s record in a lakers uniform though so we’re stuck in this purgatory of mediocrity

I think Kyrie-healthy AD-healthy 38yr Bron has a puncher's chance

With their current draft pick situation, I don’t think there is much incentive to bottom out as soon as possible.
The man has incredible lifetime stats. To be applauded.
Yet the only thing that matters is playoff wins next season and the one after and forever long he remains in Laker uniform getting paid max dollars as the cornerstone leader of the Laker team.
Why not start the count with 21-22 season: 0
Season 22-23: ?

In three of his four seasons with us, he has a grand total of two. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Key word is healthy and if healthy, there’s no team that can beat them in Ab 7 game series
Tayshaun Prince Once Explained The Difference Between Guarding Kobe Bryant And LeBron James
Quote:
With Kobe, you had to make sure you don't let him get to his sweet spot... he's going to be physical with you and try to wear you down, so once the fourth quarter comes he would get to those spots and everything else is butter... with LeBron, you had to fight through 150 pick and rolls throughout the whole game.... So it was two different things you had to worry about.
There has definitely been some discussion about who was the tougher cover between LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. Amar'e Stoudemire once suggested that Kobe Bryant was tougher to guard than LeBron James because he had "no weaknesses".

This is ridiculous.
It's the same if I say the Lakers have 0 championships in 58 of 75 seasons.

That's just silly hate you can't even take seriously because anyone that's a fan knows there's a littleeeeeee bit of gray area there. That's like putting Kobe down and saying his final 4 years as a Laker he had Zero playoff games period let alone wins.
Bron clearly needs more help (especially depth) due to his older age. He's still easily among the best players in the NBA when healthy though. Look what happened when the NBA's current darling boy Steph had to try to carry a still solid Warriors roster just a few years back.. He lost both Play-in games including to us. Superstars, once they hit those mid 30's especially it's usually game over for there elite version yet Bron still has more overall mileage then anyone at his age in probably NBA history and is still looking pretty damn good.
There's things to blame him about for sure but this is pretty, pretty, prettyyyy petty of a reason.

So "the only thing that matters is playoff wins next season and the one after?"
Yet, you want to start the count from a season that isn't part of what matters, 2021-22.
If you're doing that, why not start the count at 2020-21 or 2019-20. (Just kidding -- we all know why you don't want to start the count there.)
