Vin and Chick were the voices of my childhood. I can’t think about summertime growing up in L.A. without hearing Vin’s voice. You might not know what you were going to do from one day to the next as a kid, but you were going to listen to Vin call the Dodger game if it was on. He was in our blood, and few things in life were as soothing as the cadence he spoke with.

You know friends, so many people have wished me congratulations on a 67-year career in baseball, and they’ve wished me a wonderful retirement with my family. And now, all I can do is tell you what I wish for you.
May God give you for every storm, a rainbow,
For every tear, a smile,
For every care, a promise,
And a blessing in each trial.
For every problem life sends,
A faithful friend to share,
For every sigh, a sweet song,
And an answer for each prayer.
You and I have been friends for a long time, but I know in my heart that I’ve always needed you more than you’ve needed me, and I’ll miss our time together more I can say.
But you know what — there will be a new day, and eventually a new year. And when the upcoming winter gives way to spring, rest assured it will be time for Dodger baseball.
So this is Vin Scully, wishing you a very pleasant good afternoon, wherever you may be.
I just watched this again, his final sign off. All I can say is, Niagara Falls.

It was mentioned this morning Vin was a story teller.
A player Socrates came to bat "Ball high and away", then he'd tell a story about the real Socrates, "Strike 1," the story continued throughout the at-bat. When the at-bat was over you knew all about the real Socrates and what the Socrates at the bat did.
I remember when he started with the Dodgers. A story rumored when Red Barber heard the golden voice he put his resume out and started looking for another job.
I remember his Brooklyn Bums days and how his heart exploded when they finally won the World Series in 1955 against their nemesis Yankees.
Chick and Vinny are probably swapping stories in the great beyond.
A little of Vinny

Good baseball announcers are special, compared to other sports there is a lot of time to fill. Vin was one of the best, definitely in my top 2 or 3. Plus he was a good person above his talent. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
Linda posted the Gibson HR. Vin did the best thing an announcer could have done in a moment like that -- just shut up and let it all be. And when he finally did say something, he led off with a line that's become iconic.

Same with the call when Aaron broke the record. His speech was memorable, but he waited and let the moment exist before talking over it. _________________ 14-5-3-12

Vinny is what vintage Dodgers vans call Scully. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

I spent the better part of this morning watching bunch of Dodgers moments Vin called. He was truly amazing.
Of course the Gibson homerun was one of if not the best one in my time but my favorite one is the game vs the Padres. The one where we hit 4 consecutive homeruns to tie it and another in the extra inning to win it.

+1 for those paying their respects. Vin Scully deserves every accolade he's been given and many more that haven't yet. A huge part of my childhood. _________________ Not a legend

Couldn't say it any better than this, just as Chick taught me about basketball, Vin taught me baseball....!
RIP Vin, 67 freakin' years, that's longer than many people live..! _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.”

One of the most Jodeke posts ever.
Started calling games. I think he took over for Red Barber. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

(Remembering the legendary sports broadcaster Vin Scully)
Quote:
The baseball world is mourning the loss of the Hall of Fame sportscaster Vin Scully, who died Tuesday at the age of 94. He called games for the Los Angeles Dodgers for 67 years, the longest tenure any broadcaster has had with a professional team. Many in and out of sports said he was the best there ever was. Jeffrey Brown, who profiled Scully in 2006, looks back at his monumental career.
One of the things I will always remember about Vin is that in additional to being a legendary broadcaster, he was a legendary person.
All kinds of stories are coming out about how he dealt with us "regular people" in his interactions at the stadium and just in regular life. He was beyond gracious all the time, a humble broadcasting giant who never let his success change him as a man.
I am struggling a lot with this loss, but I am glad he lived a long full life.
RIP Vin, never to be forgotten. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny

I hope someone worthy is putting together a nice compendium of his best recordings and stories about him and from him. I want to go through it someday when I have a few hours to meditate on it.
