It’s always fun watching shootaround before a game. Guys who aren’t considered shooters will shoot like 90%.

But Lonnie has proven he can shoot it from 3 he just had a down year last year but picked it up after the ASB.

Career 34% shooter from 3.
31% last season.

37% after allstar break and now he has LeBron-AD giving him space. Not outrageous to think he might shoot decent. He won't. BUT STILL

He’s been in the league for 4 years he doesn’t necessarily have a career yet so the sample size is small.

Lol 4 seasons is not a small sample size.

One of the main knocks on him is that he’s wildly inconsistent. So when people point to select pockets of the season when he played well they’re not making the strong argument they think they’re making.

Check how many minutes he was playing when he came to the NBA then get back to me, in essence he only has 3 years of experience.

3 years isn’t a small sample either.

In the beginning last year, he was taking a lot of tough contested shots. Reason his percentage fell off and led to some benching. Finally calm down after ASB got his percentage back up... Seem like he was pressing early in the season being in a contract year.

I think we are all in agreement that their is a better chance he becomes a good 3pt shooter over guys like THT and Stanley Johnson.

Yet, higher than THT. FG% 42.2 vs. 41.6%, 3pt% 33.7 vs 26.9%

The longer this inactivity goes, the more I see Walker starting at the two guard for us.

I think he starts too. We will have the worst defensive backcourt in the league.

A healthy AD does a lot though. Even last year's team which had horrendous defenders with a healthy AD were top 10 in defense. That's with a team that didn't seem to have a veteran group that respected the coach. This year's group has some harder working younger guys and the coach is supposed to command respect from the vets. If this is all true, I can see the Lakers get back to being at least a solid defensive team. Not elite, but a team with AD should be a solid defensive team. The main issue comes down to health ....

As for playoffs, I don't like the matchups with WB/Walker as our backcourt.

One guy can only do so much. A projected starting lineup of Russ/Walker/James/AD/Bryant leaves him as the only full time defender. I just have a hard time seeing how they construct a solid defensive team. Start putting lineups together. You quickly see it’s difficult to put multiple plus defenders out there, and the lineups that do will struggle mightily to score. When AD sits? Or misses the 20 some games we can pencil him in to miss?

It is going to be interesting to see how Walker will be used.

Can he be used as a slasher and scorer? That seems to be a strength. Or will he be relegated to a corner to watch.

I still think that the best way to “save” James’ energy is to play him off ball more and not attempting to drive as much. More spot up 3s. ( which he has become pretty good at) and cuts to the basket for his thunderdunks against no defenders. He can get his running start without interference.

Let the younger players handle that role. Westbrook was supposed to do that but is so inefficient. Maybe Walker can take on that role.

He's 6'3, 6'4? It'll be interesting to see how they carve out minutes for him.

We have 4 PG sized guards (Russ/Bev/Dennis/Nunn), then you have Reaves who is a prototypical SG sized player and Lonnie.

What they’re saying and what he’s saying is that he’s going to be bringing it on the defensive end. If that happens it’s great news but it will be a career first. He’s got the speed to hang but he’s small and slight and not very physical. At some point there’s only so much we can ask. If he’s getting cooked there and he’s shooting in the mid-30s from 3 I don’t know how he justifies a serious role. Hoping for the best.

I do not see what some see in Walker's game. I hope it is me because I do not see a shooter or a defender.

Same project as THT but cheaper and doesn’t mess with the No tax 2023 plan, it is what it is
