He was also great at the very beginning of Law & Order and helped launch that franchise. RIP.

That's where I remember him the most. Oddly enough I was thinking of him the other day and then I read this.

RIP

He was a lovely man. He sang, he played tennis, and if you want to see how much heart he had and how much family meant to him, take a look at this...

With the garlic, he used a razor and he cut it so thin that it would liquify in the pan with a little oil...s'very good system.

He was just a (bleep)’ kid.

Also he’s great in The Gambler.

Funniest line in GF bar none (imo) was: "He shoots 'em in deh foot, he tells 'em ta go fwahk himself." Anthony Stabile. He didn't get much screentime, but he got the best line. I think most people would cite "Now go home 'n getcha fwahkin shinebox," as the most obvious GoodFella quote if it isn't, "How am I funny?!", etc. Any line from that scene, pretty much (which Joey suggested to Marty because someone did it to him years prior). Frank Vincent said a real mob goombah once asked him, "How could you let that little guy hit you from behind like dat?" Frank made it sound like the guy didn't know it was a movie. As a wiseguy, he was offended that Frankie didn't see any of that comin and that he was sitting w/ his back to the door (a bad move ever since Wild Bill Hickock's day). I'm sure tho that to said goodfella, Frankie V looked and sounded like a genuine wiseguy and thus, he expected better from him. Frank had the requisite swag and the accent. Frank and David Proval (Ritchie of Sops fame, Mean Streets) were the two most believable NY goodfellas to me. They coulda fit right in had they been actual sociopaths. Bryant Gumbel did a Sopranos cast Q/A and interview before the series was over and I agree w/ Bryant that Proval was easily the most stereotypically pscyho gangster from what we collectively picture a crazed Mafia wiseguy to be. He did have the Manson lamps as Tony once said.

Sorvino had a hard time coming up with an intimidating glare if you can believe that, Cuth. Much like you, he was a big teddy bear at heart. I remember him drowning in tears at an awards show when Mira won an award. He was openly weeping in pride over his baby girl. I like the way he played Paulie because he was stern only when necessary, but at family functions, they showed him jovial and loving, more or less. He brings Henjry in close to ask him about Batts and you can see him sniffing Hendjry's cologne. Little touches like that. Kind of a fatherly boss. He ultimately just played to his sensibilities, but I saw a bit of that 1998 Romeo/Juliet remake w/ Leo where Sorvino and Claire Daines were arguing and Paulie was straight fearsome.

RIP...Two weeks after Tony Sirico. Crazy how many mob actors died this year. Pacino and De Niro are around the same age too.

As DMR said, quality actor.

He was in so many things over the years and always did a great job.

Bonus points also for being the hot Mira Sorvino's father.

RIP....
