This is why we signed him

Everyone looks good in highlight films, of course, but you can see traits like good hands, hustle and athleticism in him that enable him to make those highlights. I'm intrigued!

A former Gm for Phx thought the lakers got a good pickup in Brown. He probably thought he was the best pickup we got. He talked about his potential. He was less enthused about Walker

Brown and Jones great! Walker and JTA not so much imo. Had those guys both got the minimum in day 3 or much later then ok.

What are you talking about JTA is one of the best pickups we had so far.

Hope you are right and I am wrong 😊 Didn’t see them as day 1 signings. If we acquire an extra player in the Kyrie trade then we want to add T Bryant and T J Warren we would not have a roster spot to add both because of JTA and Walker. Would be ok with JTA and Walker (for vet min) later in the free agent period to fill out the roster after other targets are acquired or no longer available but don’t see them as main targets indicated by a day one acquisition.

Is there any way to convince him to never drive into the paint?

So I guess Melo ain’t coming back…unless there’s a number change.

The more things I see about this guy, the more I am intrigued with his potential. He definitely looks like he'll have a solid impact guarding the 1-3 positions.

Seems like Rob is very much clearing house of the geezers. Wouldn't mind seeing Melo back in a more limited/less dependent role but ain't happening it seems.

Troy Brown Jr. takes pride in stealing the ball.
Love his caginess and effort on defense.
He plays defense with the intensity that others play offense.

Just have a sneaky feeling that Brown Jr will contributed a lot this season. Just from watching his game, he is in a cusp of getting it all together. Learned to catch and shoot as a 3 and D players at Chicago last year, but has more to his game than that. Came in at 19, I feel his 5th season as a Laker is a breakout year. Shot almost league average on 3, but was shooting 43% after the all star break.

THT also came in as a 19 yr old, this coming season is his 4th year my hope if he stays, is that coach Ham can unlock his defensive presence as a guard with his length and offensively just atk as the ball swings around. Don’t need him to be a facilitator in offense.

I too have a sneaky feeling that Troy might be our x factor this year.
But then again, I had a good feeling about Bazemore last year

I thought he had some playmaking ability out of college. Am I misremembering?

He and Bryant are my favorite signings. Can see a world where he is starting at the 2 by seasons end.

No. He was praised for his playmaking and vision for his size.

Thanks.
So yes, he had some play making ability (for his size).
Hope to see some of it this year.

He started the season as part of the Bulls rotation, but fell out and they decided not to extend him the qualifying offer. The word people used over and over to describe him was "inconsistent."

Reviews of his season:

"A 6’6″ wing who fights for rebounds, plays solid on-ball defense, and flashes real upside as a live-dribble playmaker, Brown started the season as a member of the Bulls rotation. However, after struggling to make a consistent impact and score efficiently, Brown quickly fell out of favor with head coach Billy Donovan."

"The 22-year-old was wildly inconsistent on the offensive end and didn’t give head coach Billy Donovan enough on the defensive end to make him a consistent cog in the machine. There were moments when Brown Jr. looked like a defensive wing stopper. Again, he was just too inconsistent.

I didn't know anything about this young guy. Young, defensive-minded, jumper a good work in progress but displayed a consistent touch after the AS break, 5 years in the league.

May be at the perfect point in his career where he understands how to maximize his skill set. I appreciate the post.
