I gotta try Spam infused meatloaf one day.

Coincidence? I'm making a meatloaf today. I'm mentally tasting spam and ground beef. I'll let you know how it tastes.

Noyce. Gimme the address, I'm there. We talking about brown gravy or ketchup sauce? Loaf is one of those dishes that seems simple, but some folks make it markedly better than others. Kinda like tuna in that respect. What kind of sides we talkin? Mashed taters are essential. Mashed taters is another thing that most people screw up.

Haven't had Spam since mm, late 80s, early 90s. I think my pops must've acquired a can as a work joke because we never bought it and he had all kinds of weird snacks like Braunschweiger/sauerkraut (German immigrant), pigs feet, sardines, pickled herrings, V8 a la Tony Soprano and ate raw celery like Ton', etc. Eech. And he didn't buy Spam so I dunno, but last time I even vaguely recall having it was fried for breakfast. It didn't taste horrific to me, simply "get what you pay for" cheap. Probably salty. I always wonder what it would taste like in meatloaf, if the flavor would be noticeable at all. The Spam capital of Amurica is Hawaii. That's been stated a lot here and there, but they seem to like it. It probably hearkens back to WWII and a shortage of meat/food and plenty of Spam around.

There's a whole lot of $#!T that comes before Spam on that list, including actual $#!T.

I was sticking to technical “food”. Yes, raw sewage would be below cannibalism (approximately), and pure bleach or crude oil would be down there too. The idea is that spam is dangerously close to eating you pet, or your neighbor.

I've always wondered what feces would taste like in meatloaf. I'm thinking it would add an extra nutty flavor to beef.

As far as cannibalism, Spam is suspiciously pink in tone. I have to try it again for a fresh oulook. I think you two are jivin. Spam is a wholesome American canned meat product kept moist with a helping of a food-grade colloidal suspension akin to gelatin.

It was alright. The spam gave the meatloaf a different taste. Difficult to describe. Kinda briny sweet. I had it with mixed vegetables, rice, and gravy made with sliced onion, diced tomato, and tomato sauce.

It may come as a pleasant surprise to learn that SPAM is not the preservative-packed mystery meat you might think it is. In fact, SPAM only contains six ingredients! And the brand's website lists them all. They are: pork with ham meat added (that counts as one), salt, water, potato starch, sugar, and sodium nitrite

EDIT 7/13; I had spam and eggs for breakfast this morning. I used the leftover spam from the meatloaf.

Pork w/ ham meat sounds suss as the kids say. Ham is specified, pork is not. What does that mean? We're talkin head and tail partz. Snoutz, earz, lipz, tongue, pubic/anus, etc. Per Bourdain, Zimmern, and those dudes, the cheek meat from a pig head is the best part of the whole oinker, so I'll assume that isn't included.

Yeah, guanciale is where it’s at.

Yeah, guanciale is where it’s at.

I remember seein a charcuterie quality head cheese segment on Food or Cooking Chan. Chef was undressing the cooked pig head and the cheek meet in particular looked just like pulled pork. It's suposedly akin to the oysters from a chicken, tenderest/most flavorful morsel in terms of identifiable pork flavor. The weird food host was raving about the finished head cheese in general. I'd have no qualms trying that cooked by a chef who knows what s/he's doin, but the Oscar Meyer variety is a negative, ghostrider.
