Threw this in the FA thread, but thought I'd throw it in here too:

This trade works on the trade machine and has fairly even wins, offensive, and defensive outcomes.

NETS RECEIVE:
Terry Rozier
Talen Horton-Tucker

LAKERS RECEIVE:
Gordon Hayward
Kyrie Irving

HORNETS RECEIVE:
Russell Westbrook

Hornets clear long-term cap obligations. A stated goal.

Nets get a young prospect in THT + Terry Rozier who can put up 20 PPG as they retool in the wake of this chaos (and Kevin Durant likely demanding a trade after Irving is traded).

Lakers get Kyrie, get rid of Russ, and take on the big contract of injury-riddled Hayward.

Win, Win, Win.

Would that restrict Kyrie getting big money next year? That is what we need to look at with all these trades where we take money back.

My trade scenario presumes an opt in and trade. Not sure if it could also work in a sign and trade scenario. In the former, Kyrie would not be restricted (Lakers would have his Bird Rights and could offer him a max). In the latter, he'd already receive his long-term, big-money contract (theoretically).

So Kyrie was given permission to seek a sign and trade. Lakers are reportedly the only team seeking a sign and trade. Nets won't take Westbrook. Reports are pointing to Kyrie actually signing for the mini MLE as a strong possibility.

The only thing is if that becomes a reality, I highly doubt the Lakers would be the only contender offering the mini MLE. You don't think the Bucks, Heat, Clippers, Nuggets, Mavs are going to offer the mini MLE?

Just saying hopefully Lebron can close the deal.

Sure they would BUT would Kyrie sign.

This whole play is about leverage. The clock is ticking. Sean Marks is in a really bad spot, if Kyrie walks for nothing then KD will become the next issue. Nets as an org mortgaged all their picks to get Harden.

Marks is basically going to get canned

First sign Kyrie for $6 mil.

Then trade AD, Russ, and a pick to the Nets for KD.

It's almost like some of you refuse to understand the salary cap.

None of those teams have the cap space to sign him to the max in 2023.

To be accurate, Vegas bookmakers aren't predicting the outcome. They use algorithms to set odds so that bets are spread evenly among the various choices. That ensures whatever happens the bookmakers make money.

So, at best, you can say the odds reflect what people are betting on. And there are many factors that influence how people bet beyond a objective analysis of probabilities

Kyrie signs the MLE
Westbrook, THT and the 2027 Pick are traded to the Pacers for Myles Turner and Buddy Hield

if he's serious.

Shams said Kyrie has opted into the last year of his deal. Guess he’s not that crazy

So, he opted in, predictably. No one would leave that much money on the table, especially when it's losing value.

Shams Charania
@ShamsCharania

Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving is opting into his $37 million player option for the 2022-23 season,
@TheAthletic

@Stadium
has learned. Irving is bypassing on multiple opt-in and trade scenarios to fulfill his four-year commitment to the Nets and Kevin Durant.

See this topic next off-season.

Kyrie keeps his bird rights by opting in, and will probably be traded during the season. Can’t see him finishing the year with Nets.

By opting-in, Irving is eligible to be traded to any of the 29 teams and the hard cap restriction does not apply.

It was a nice dream, but realistically couldn't see him letting go of $30 million for the upcoming season and $17 million from sitting out all those games last season.
