Why would the Bobcats trade the fourth pick for a one year rental in Pau? |
Bobcats aren't a good fit for Gasol. They are rebuilding and want young players to grow and develop. Gasol would have to be traded to a third team if we were to get the Bobcats pick.
Something like:
Lakers Trade:Pau Gasol
Lakers Get:Ben Gordon,Amir Johnson,#4 Pick
Bobcats Trade:#4 Pick, Ben Gordon
Bobcats Get:DeMar DeRozan
Raptors Trade:DeMar DeRozan,Amir Johnson
Raptors Get:Pau Gasol
Both Gordon and Johnson are expiring contracts which keeps the 2014 plan intact. Gordon could start at SG if Kobe misses the start of the season or could be the 6th man off the bench. Johnson is a solid role player and provides rebounding and defense at PF. Wtih the #4 pick we could draft a PG like Burke. If Burke goes in the top three then we could draft whoever slips like Porter or McLemore. |

Steve Clifford and Chuck Person were Dwight Howard's closest relationships on coaching staff. They are both gone now. |

D12 is next, we are clearing the house so that MDA and Jim can have their little love affair with Nash and 3 point shooting. |
Yes, I am certain this is the plan. |

Dwight can't hold the Clifford move against the Lakers, since it is a promotion for Clifford. But it doesn't help. _________________ We want Soon now....we want Soon now....we want Soon now! |

While true.. Thibs also had a few years with that group to instill his system while having players that fit within what he was trying to do.
D'Antoni didn't have any of that. I don't know.. I'd really like to see the Lakers give Mike D'Antoni a roster that he can work with and a full training camp to see what he's capable of.
I still don't think you can switch a coach, regardless of the talent, mid-season and expect a miracle. Post All-Star break - the Lakers were a pretty good team. |

I thought that was one of our better signings last year because of their Orlando relationship...but not much you can do unless you make him your head coach. |
In fact, Dwight should and will be happy for Clifford. Nothin we could do. Person for me, well I'm still holding that summer league against him. ..lol |

The more things change the more they stay the same
https://nba.nbcsports.com/2022/06/24/steve-clifford-reportedly-will-return-to-coach-charlotte-hornets/
Quote: | It’s official: Steve Clifford will return to coach Charlotte Hornets
UPDATE: The Hornets have announced the hiring and it is official, Steve Clifford is back in Charlotte.
“We are pleased to welcome Steve back to our franchise,” Hornets GM Mitch Kupchak said in a statement. “We believe that his previous experience and coaching philosophy make him the best coach for our team. Steve has a proven track record of improving defenses and is detail oriented. He has a history of maximizing players’ talent and working with them to develop and expand their skill sets. Steve is committed to playing with the same offensive pace that our fans are accustomed to seeing the last few years. We are confident that he will be able to help our young players continue to grow as we look to take the next step as a team.”
This is reportedly a three-year deal with the third year being a team option.
——————————————
In the wake of Kenny Atkinson jilting them and choosing to stay in the Bay Area, the Charlotte Hornets have returned to the comfort of someone they know.
Steve Clifford, who coached the Hornets for five seasons but was fired in 2018, will return to coach the team. Marc Stein broke the news that he was seriously back in the running days ago, and ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski had the news he was hired.
Hornets owner Micheal Jordan met with Clifford and fellow finalist Mike D’Antoni recently and has chosen the more defensive-minded Clifford.
This is a solid hire. Clifford is a quality coach. It’s a bit of a safe pick, but the Hornets’ biggest problem last season was defense and they just hired one of the best defensive coaches in the league. Charlotte will be better on that end. What should help on defense is the Hornets’ drafting shot-blocking center Mark Williams out of Duke.
Clifford is not known for his offensive creativity but rather for liking to play a slower, grinding style. It will be interesting to see how he uses the very creative LaMelo Ball in what was a high-powered offense last season.
Now the Hornets’ front office has work to do to round out this roster. They should re-sign Miles Bridges, but to clear out cap space for that Charlotte reportedly is looking to trade Gordon Hayward and/or Terry Rozier.
Clifford had not been part of Charlotte’s original search for a head coach to replace James Borrego, but he was brought in after Atkinson pulled out. Clifford coached the Hornets from 2013-18 and racked up a 196-214 record with a couple of trips to the playoffs. After the Hornets, Clifford coached the Magic for three seasons, making the playoffs twice, but when Orlando leaned into a rebuild he stepped away. |

^Seriously, I wasn’t paying attention and started reading the earlier posts, thought Pau miraculously found the fountain of youth during his retirement. It was 2013. Looks like Charlotte is the new home of the Laker alums: Mitch, Steve Clifford, and even Nina (the trainer during the 2020 championship). |
