In light of the news of Blazers hiring former Draft Express guru, as well as NOW former ESPN draft expert writer, Mike Schmitz (who’s probably telling the Blazers to tank for Victor Wembanyama right now as we speak). There clearly seems to be a trend of sports organizations hiring media people for front office positions.

Sooo….when will we see the Lakers do the same thing for our man GT?

Is he a Buss family member, part of Showtime, or was employed by Kobe? If not. Nope.

It is actually something of a trend -- I believe Schmitz will be the 5th media type that NBA teams have hired in the past 5 years.

Schmitz may have the most extensive background. He's been traveling the world scouting talent for years. He's been a video coordinator for a G team and he's an assistant coach for the Uganda national team.

He's always been more of a basketball scout than a media guy like some of the Sports Illustrated writers that NBA teams have hired.

Don’t see him as a GM type. But he could someday get a video coordinator job and that’s been a way for guys to get in the coaching line.

Just the 5th?

Wow. The NBA has hired more twitter guys than media types then.

fwiw, the best draft twitter hire just graduated from USC and has been leading the Memphis Grizzlies for the past 3 years.

considering he thought Lonzo Ball and DLO were the future of the league, and Randle/BI just scrubs, hopefully never.
