Nice offensive game by Carmelo. He's still a ball-stopper and his defense is bad most of the time but he does fight hard on the boards.
STATS:
20 points (8-16 FG/ 2-6 TP / 2-2 FT), 7 rebounds, zero assists, +5

Melo has put in work this season and we should appreciate that. He's also been one of our better players this year.

I still think in a right sized role on a good team he's a two rotation player (aka under 20 mpg) with a second unit that needs a scoring threat in the half court. Even that role could be truncated in the playoffs. He's too easy to pick on defensively.

Yes, the issue is hardly Melo, who is doing better than most expected, even on defense. The issue is roster construction/injuries leading to overuse in both minutes and situations.

Melo is playing his role correctly, older min player whose job is to come in provide limited scoring punch and that's it. Everything else is gravy

No doubt he's a very flawed player but much like Dwight did 2 years ago, Melo has my respect. I think he can still contribute to a contender although on much less minutes and more limited situations. Out of all the vets, only him and Dwight are worth bringing back IMO.

Carmelo earned my respect by accepting his role on this team and doing his best within the limitations he has. He wasn't a locker room cancer like I thought he'd be either. He has a very good shooting stroke, and therefore still has value as a role player off the bench when a team needs an outside threat for a few minutes. If he's happy with that role, he still has a place in the NBA.

Never would have said that about him before seeing how well he handled himself with the Lakers this season.

You can't ask too much from anyone being paid the Vet Min. With all the injuries, he was vaulted into a bigger role than I think anyone expected. It'd be unfair to say that Melo didn't meet, or even exceed expectations this season.

The reality is we will need to have the roster filled with at least some vet min players, so I'd like to see Melo stick around if he wanted to.

It wasn't his fault, poor roster construction led to his number being called more than it should have been, and in situations where his weaknesses exceeded his strengths. He was perfectly fine for a deep bench role to provide momentum shifting minutes in certain key games/matchups; hopefully he can still do so next year.

didn't an opposing player said they were hunting for melo when on the floor? We are not nearly good enough to have a one-dimensional guy like him.

Love the guy, but we need to replace him with long, young legs.

You think all NBA teams seat 2-way players for spots #11 - #15?
You think that when all you have to pay is vet-min then you will find 2-way players that are a net plus?

Absolutely teams hunt him because he can no longer hold his own against starting units or athletic lineups. But in a 30 team NBA, there are plenty of games, lineups and non-closing minutes where he can score more than he gives up, so he's still useful.

Im not talking about all NBA teams. i am talking about my team. We suck. Bron used to need shooters now that's all he does, better than melo. He has become melo.

๐ŸŽฏ ๐ŸŽฏ

What makes it worse is the big names are at the stage where no one is scared of them, so the ego doesnโ€™t match where the player really isโ€ฆ

Opponents look at Melo, Russ, Ariza, DeAndre, etc. and see food.

All of them are tired-legged and old with no effort or desire to play defense for an extended period of time. No way those guys should have been on the same team at this point in time.

Agree but what do you expect for the minimum especially when it's coaching and poor roster construction that puts him in these situations in the first place. I saw a guy very willing to move his feet on defense despite his limitations. He is a very good situational player at worst.

Melo accepted his role, bought in, and was an x factor in several games.

Again, he's one of the pieces you bring back.

Melo was out of the NBA for 1-2 seasons. He had a chance on a injury riddled Blazers, and hit a few nice shots.

Did anyone really except this guy being able to be more than a 12th man? Check my post history. I feel like a broken record. He can try on defense all he wants. He can try to hit a mid range shot all he wants. But his time here in the NBA is OVER.

Rumors are that Boston and Miami are interested in him.

A farewell tour with either Denver or New York makes sense
