In this case, the LAPD did a magnificent job.

I just reread it. Initially, I thought they pulled him from a car. Amazingly no one was killed.

It's weird how there are dozens of scrapes and many even closer to death than this. Some muhs truly escape buses a half step in time, not even a full one. I just saw a whole vid full of them the other day. Giant boulders falling onto mountain roads a partial second before or after a car stops in front or passes it, that kinda thing. Seen both sides of a tractor trailer rolling over a dude in China w/o getting one tire on him and another where all the contents of a limb were splatted out of the corpse's skin like a tire running over a banana. Of course, the clips where the folks who are a half step or a second too late are specialty clips.

There was a 60s song about these phenomena:

Yep . . . the idea that a plane crashed right into a rail crossing shortly before a train came along and cops pulling him out last second is nuts. If you put that into a primetime cop show, people would laugh at the implausibility.

I think that's a push-pull train. It looked like an engine was in front. If it was it probably prevented injury to passengers and the engineer.

That was the "CAB" car which is the opposite side from the engine and is allowed to carry passengers.

CAB cars are weighted with a crumple zone to help with impacts. That plane was very light and only the tail was on the tracks so the train likely did pretty well through the impact.

You can see the engine of the train at the 28 second mark on this video:

Thanks. Man, that train was moving! Do they have speed limits on them in city limits?

Yes. Each section of track has its own limit determined by a lot of things like turns, at-grade crossings, how many people are expected to be near the tracks.

The max speed allowed for the Amtrak trains (which share tracks with these metro's) is 90. A crew will be shut down on the spot if they exceed that plus a small buffer. I'm assuming it's similar for the Metros.
