The Lakers are planning to sign Darren Collison and Stanley Johnson to 10-day hardship deals, sources tell ESPN. The Lakers are hopeful they'll be available for the Christmas Day game vs. Brooklyn.
Quote:
Collison, 34, has been out of the NBA since retiring after the 2019 season with Indiana. He's considered comebacks, but finally returns with the Lakers on a 10-day deal.
I used to think Stanley Johnson had a Ron Artest upside. But Detroit is the worst place to get drafted to for development, and unfortunately he's never seemed to find a rhythm.
I don't hold out much hope. But at least Lakers fans got their "6'7 wing defender" they've been asking for.
Is there a rule that all Laker signings have to be over 32, washouts or rookies? How in the hell would either of these guys help? Jemarrio Jones has a better chance of helping than Stanley Johnson

At this point who do you think will actually be available to sign?
Surprised we didn't go after Ennis and House but otherwise there are no saviors to be found.. just place holders.

The worst "rule" to me is how we refuse to bring on someone that is the size of a traditional SF or PF. We are getting killed (besides poor health) because of the small lineups we continue to put on the floor to defend, and opposing offenses understandably have zero respect for it.
We don't guard the paint or dissuade outside shooters well with all of our little people in front of them (let alone the rebounding disparity game after game), and the front office refuses to address our shallow depth at those positions.

Dunno..pickings are slim…
NBA.com shows these available:
Need a big for sure - Baines, Biyombo, Cousins, Johntay Porter, Melli, Illysova
Then maybe a wing - RHJ, Jakaar Sampson, ???
If they really think they need another guard - Tyler Johnson, Mike James, Jeff Teague are in better place to help than guys like IT or Collison

Melo played center for a few minutes last night…..in relief of LBJ at center….let that sink in……..just incredible….
There is one team that can get away with that small of a lineup - GSW because they are assembled and coached that way the entire season, plus they can score a bunch to make up for it on offense.
If that is what the Laker admin and coaches are trying to emulate with LBJ and AD on the team, someone should be fired…
Throw stanley into the fire and start him and have him shadow and guard HARDEN all game.
PG: WB
SG: ELLINGTON
SF: JOHNSON
PF: LEBRON
C: DWIGHT
BENCH: rondo, collison, THT, melo
COACH has to simulate a 8-9 man playoff rotation. MUST win game. Time to simulate playoff intensity and rotation/minutes TOMORROW. Lakers have 2 days rest after XMAS.

I'd actually take a shot on Baynes. He was bad with the C's but he's pretty decent overall for his career.
