The biggest knock on LeBron’s GOAT case is the way he just leaves each organization in shambles afterward.

I think that's ridiculous.

Before Lebron got to the Cavs, they were a 17-win team that hadn't got past the first round in a decade. He took them out of the shambles and led a weak group of teammates to the finals multiple times. Why is it his fault that that weak group of teammates floundered without him?

How did Lebron leave the Heat in "shambles"? They still had Wade and Bosh. A year after he left, they were a 48-win team. In six years, they were back in the finals.

When Lebron return to the Cavs, he transformed a 33-win team into a world champion. When he left, they had to reboot, but so what?

The Bucks sucked after Kareen left. Orlando went from a finals team to first-round fodder after Shaq left, and so did OKC after Durant left. The 76ers floundered when Wilt left. The Rockets went from a finals team to an 18-win team after Moses Malone left.

What exactly did Lebron do to these franchises, other than winning rings for them and then exercising his free agency rights that he had every right to exercise?

Yeah, that's one of the funniest criticisms of LeBron to me. Aw, the poor Cavs and Heat. I'm sure they really regret LeBron bringing them championships.

If you want to avoid showboating and see humble players, watch an NHL game.

No really bad people on the Lakers, but they're not exactly likeable either.

I've watched the Lakers since 1962 and for most of those years the team had players you enjoyed and could identify with over time.

Examples:
West, Baylor, Chamberlain, Goodrich, Happy Hairston
Magic, Kareem, Worthy, Cooper, Scott, McAdoo, Mychal Thompson.
Or Kobe, Shaq, Horry, Fox, Fisher, Harper, Shaw
Or Kobe, Pau, Ariza or Artest and Fisher
The 2020 team with Lebron, AD, Kuzma, KCP, Caruso, Dwight & McGee

This year's roster is "Eh..."
A collection of 1-year-contracts and AD, Lebron & Westbrook -- and even they aren't that inspiring so far.

.500 team walks around with the swagger of one that's undefeated. And the way they talk is a bit annoying, like they can start a 12 game winning streak at will, with the snap of a finger.

Oh, no problem with Russ posing and flexing after that dunk?

I guess smugness is endearing if they do it during a blowout win.

I do get your point and yes that level of posing and flexing really shouldn't happen... the point is to win, not look good and 2 points is 2 points...On that, I guess a case could be made that vets like RW and LBJ maybe shouldn't carry on so much on plays that are not game winners (Kobe hardly ever made a big deal of it unless it was a game winner).

However that said, on that particular play, I wouldn't really classify RWs reaction as indicative of the team "smugness" issue discussed in this thread. Every player in the league makes some sort of reaction when they get a power dunk like that as they don't happen that often. Doing it in a Lakers vs Celtics (storied franchises) game makes that reaction even more understandable and less about the "smugness" issue, IMO.

.500 teams showing swagger only makes them look foolish.

Nope, but I guess AC and Reaves could tell you what else you could do...

Avalanche. Live in Denver. You?

But in all honesty I follow my son and his teams with just as much passion. Currently 18U level. Love how hard those kids play!

To get back on topic, the NBA could learn from the NHL by toning down the constant complaining to the refs and posturing or playing to the camera after a play.

Keep the flow of the game going. The line between celebrating and grandstanding is a blurry one. Would like to see the NBA players reel it in a bit.

But I’m a old man, grew up in an era with coaches that yelled at you to “act like you been there before, and plan on being back soon” . Today’s players are looking for on-air highlight clips or going viral. Just the changing of the times.

The big balls celebration is a bit tasteless but I don't mind the tip-off antic. Just players trying to inject a bit of lightheartedness; I wouldn't be surprise if there was some superstition involved. You can try to keep things light in even the most serious and grave settings and still manage to do your job well. It just happens that their every move is being watched by millions. Russ' smugness can be off-putting but more often than not they fire up the team and the crowd. Is that not what we need at times?

And let's not forget that this is still a game.

This is a funny topic.

I think the over the top "smugness" or swagger is just simply the trend. Not sure when it started, but everyone does it, don't they? Good teams and bad teams and all teams.

Are there teams who don't? It's like the thing where a player makes some great play, and everyone on the bench falls over grabbing each other. Every team does it. It's like tattoos...trendy.

I started watching again a while back, and I noticed a lot of things that were different from the old days. Like free throws...they take forever, and they slap everyone's hands every frickin time. Ten hours between shots. In the old days, ref throws guy ball, he shoots free throw, ref immediately throws guy ball again, he shoots free throw.

Same thing in baseball where the pitcher and batter have 12 hours of rituals between each pitch, re-tightening their gloves, combing their hair, texting their Mom, doing their taxes...it's ridiculous.

But I digress...I'm not sure which is better, an over the top confidence or a calm cool...maybe it doesn't matter. But I suspect most people like the antics. It's showbiz.

The question 30 games in is WHY???

LBJ was looking pedestrian, games like this he shoulda dominated no one could match up with him, he stopped himself!
AD, well people criticize him but his two injuries tonight were legit & if it were us probably woulda broke our ankle or suffered hypertension or worse to knee.
The so called big 3, Russ looked like he was keeping them in it first half.
The others were God awful!!!
Bottom line is your right effort has been missing all year, like they don’t give a (bleep). LBJ’s body language says quit or I don’t have it anymore to carry a team, AD seems like he smokes a joint before the game & Russ is out of control most of the time missing chippies!!!

There's also something in between slumping your shoulders and celebrating like jackals while being down.

'Nuff said.

How about last night's game though boys? Rocking the baby and hooting and hollering only to get a train ran on them. That was embarrassing. You'd think Russell would tone that ish down after he tried it against Dame and proceeded to get punked in their series.
