Who knew thieves would take advantage of non-prosecution for shoplifting crimes.

Union Square is right next to the Tenderloin. It’s definitely sketchy. SF as a whole is sketchy past like 10:00.

The Home Depot in Lakewood just got robbed tonight by a flash mob who were looking for tools to commit their next robberies.

The grove in West Hollywood . So when one of these guys, gals get shot. What’s the narrative going to be?

Because at some point the law will have to be obeyed.

Why would someone get shot over shoplifting?

Just like in the movies

Second or third time some shop gets robbed the business owner loses their minds.

actually reading through this they targeted those big name pieces of trash that burn 100s of thousands of pounds of brand new products every year

They deserve to get shoplifted /eos

One will resist, it will lead to something, ending in someone getting clipped.

Unless they bring a gun with them, which so far doesn't seem to be. I can't really see it escalating to someone getting shot over this.

Employees are taught to get out the way. Unless police happen to arrive on the scene immediately, I don't see any store employees trying to detain these robbers.

Maybe the small mom and pop stores, but the big retail stores, I don't know. I think they constantly remind their employees to don't try and be a hero. Just let them take what they want and call the police.

San Fran just trash now. Band van got broken into while we were sound checking, every time a band rolls thru their gear gets stolen. And when we slept in the parking lot over night all you hear is homeless people screaming and yelling at each other. Went to a gas station bathroom and there are needles right outside the door. What us going on over there.

There was a guy who was broken into thrice and rigged a shotgun atop the door and killed a booby, but he was the one who did time. Bernie Goetz syndrome. Bernie started shooting at, "How are you doin?"

I used to be a assistant manager at Thrifty Drug Store, and we were pretty aggressive trying to catch shoplifters. Most often it was store clerks we caught stealing, but I remember one aggressive take-down outside the store we had with a big guy. Eventually stores went to security guards, cameras, and theft protection devices. But back in the 1980's, it was a bit of the wild wild West, but still lots of stuff got ripped off. If we caught you though, we threw the book at you...

I worked retail in college (this is 2013-2016) and we were told to never actually confront a shoplifter, and to ABSOLUTELY NEVER chase a shoplifter in to the parking lot. They always told us to passively aggressively confront them while they were still in the store, i.e just stand next to them asking if they needed help finding anything, if we could help carry the items in their pocket up to the cash register, etc. Think the liability of having an employee stabbed by a shoplifter on store property was a bigger liability to the store than whatever loss they'd have from petty theft.

I first remember snatch and grab in the early '90s in downtown Los Angeles. I don't think it was organized. I think it was a group of brazen crack heads.

I don't think this is about employees. we are at a sketchy time. A lot more people carry than I'm sure people think. It just takes one angry civilian to play cop. Which seems to be a thing.
