The christmas vibes from the new Hawkeye trailer made me think that Marvel is so big that they can make any theme movie at this point and it'll be connected in their universe. Insane that a Christmas movie, kung fu movie, and scifi/time travel movie are all connected and no one thinks twice about it.

Saw "Black Widow" last weekend. I liked it. David Harbour was hilarious. I didn't like what they did with Taskmaster though.

I was disappointed with the "What If?" series. It was cool getting some of the original actors to do the voices but having only the MCU characters to work with really limited the series.

Seems like reactions to The Eternals, which premiered last night, have been mixed with most saying it's not like any other Marvel movie and that it is slow and dense (clocks in at over 2.5 hrs) with less action.

This should not come as a surprise if you've ever seen a Chloe Zhao film.

Also that at least one of the two post-credit scenes is huge for the future of the MCU (Mutants?).

I watched Infinity Wars. I'm confused. It ended but didn't end. There was a scene after the movie ended showing Samuel L Jackson saying Oh $hit and his body did what those did in Infinity Wars ending. Where is this going? Is there another movie in the works?

Infinity War is the first part and it ends with Avengers End Game.

You also might want to watch Ant Man and the Wasp in between those two movies. There is a post-credit scene that is important to see in Ant-Man to understand the start of End Game.

They should all be on Disney+

The Russo brothers giving a middle finger to anyone in their audience who hadn't watched Thor: The Dark World was fun.

CL, you be laying some heavy catchup on me. I'm still dealing with Star Trek Generations. You've overloaded my plate. I'll have to put sideboards on it. Thank you for the info.

Did anybody check out Eternals yet? I watched it last night, going into it well aware of poorly it was reviewed by the critics (and being an unabashed MCU fanboy myself). Honestly, I have no idea how anyone could think it was the worst MCU movie behind films like Thor 2, Captain Marvel, and Black Widow.

Was it great? No...but they tried something different and moved away from the usual, bland origin story formula that MCU has worn out, which so many were clamoring for, and I give them credit for that. Pros were the beautiful visuals (saw it in IMAX), a good effort from a mostly solid cast all around to give a rather dry story some life, with Kumail Nanjiani and Don Lee being the standouts to me, and an ending that left open some intriguing possibilities for the next direction of the broader MCU. Cons, for me personally, were mainly related to this being a primarily exposition-driven story, which lent itself to some uneven pacing and moments of boredom, with a runtime that probably could've been 20 minutes shorter.

It was a tough ask to introduce so many new characters and far out concepts in what was very much a standalone movie, with only passing references to other characters and events in the MCU, 13 years in. I can see why casual fans would be turned off, especially given the obscure source material that was stuffed in, not as much action, and characters many will still likely barely care about even when the movie ends. I'm surprised they didn't try to tie it in more with some of the other Avengers to build a better connection for audiences that are more interested in the MCU big picture. Honestly, it probably would've made for a good Disney+ series, where they could've better fleshed out the story and developed the individual Eternals' back stories and characters before bringing them into the movies. The movie was very much a world-building exercise and setup for Phase 4/5, which I could mostly appreciate, but I get that it's hard to appease people with that who just watched End Game after ten years of buildup and want to quickly move onto the next climactic event.

But taken as a standalone movie, I just thought it was a solid watch that kept me engaged through most of it. I was actually more bored at times watching Shang-Chi, which I also liked overall, but it had rave reviews for critics (go figure). What'd you guys think?

I thought Eternals was fine. I liked it for what it was.

I think people are not raving about it because it's not exactly a fun watch like most Marvel or comic book movies. Thematically, it deals with very adult philosophical concepts.

Like I can't imagine kids enjoying this movie like other popular Marvel entries. There were high school kids in the theater I watched it in and I could tell they were not into it.

It doesn't really follow the traditional hero story arc so it is really difficult to even compare it to other comic book movies.

I agree it probably should have been a Disney+ mini-series. There are just too many characters to introduce in a single movie. I felt little connection to each of them individually because there wasn't enough time to build them up.

But yeah, no way is this the worst Marvel movie. That mantle belongs to Captain Marvel for me.
