Why did they make a movie about Melania?

Has anyone seen A Quiet Place II? I have it queued. Is it worth a watch? A Quiet Place is one of the few horror films I enjoyed.

Eleanor Powell was a hoofer, man!

I need to see more of her movies, but watching her match Fred Astaire step for step in Broadway Melodies of 1940 is a pure delight:

Powell is such an impressively powerful, athletic dancer almost like the female Gene Kelly.

Not really a western guy, but I recently watched "the good bad and ugly", "tombstone" and "the ballad of buster scruggs". Really enjoyed them all.

You chose wisely. What a lineup of movies.

Only two edits on that tap dance sequence, man! I wish movie watchers today appreciated dance routines as both art and stunt work.

Tap dancing is a lost art. It's beautiful when done as a pair or group.

Tenet was really disappointing. So long, repetitive and convoluted.

It was disappointing. There are no real characters or human emotions to be found. It’s all an exercise in plot. I can’t say it’s a good movie.

And yet, it felt like a fun ride that I enjoyed being on. Maybe I admired the audacity of it and I certainly appreciate any spectacle for adults these days that doesn’t involve capes. I probably would never watch it again but I wasn’t regretful that I saw it.

The acting felt cold and detached. Like every actor was independently in their own lane. No real flow or interplay to be found. I also found myself cringing hard at Kenneth Branagh’s exotic gangster accent. So phony. Should have just cast the babayaga dude from John Wick. The set pieces are also fairly tasteless, the final battle sequence of faceless soldiers going up against thin air fell so profoundly flat that I actually burst out laughing. I think it was maybe trying too hard to be adult. I love Nolan, but I think he would benefit more from having a strong producer type to rein him in creatively these days.

It felt to me like the concept of depicting the “inverted” stuff on screen was so compelling and consuming to him that everything else was hastily thrown together without much consideration. The acting felt detached because there’s nothing here for the actors to play. They’re just plot pawns. Nolan is in a class of his own in the sense that he makes heady blockbusters for adults that cost and make a lot of money. I’ll forgive him an indulgence. Just this once.

Nolan has always wanted to do a Bond movie so he went out and made himself a big, noisy, expensive one about dudes becoming friends (plus a clunky climate change metaphor and his recurring wife guy theme).

Thinking of post DePalma Mission Impossible movies, the Daniel Craig Bond movies, and even the last 2-3 F&F entries, all of their exposition dumps about international intrigue and shadowy societies, the ever present macguffins and double crosses, etc. are incomprehensible and meaningless to me. They all run together and it's what we put up with in order to get submarine v. car fights and a 50 year old egomaniac strapped to the side of a plane taking off.

Nolan didn't intend to do so since he's such a po-faced puzzle maker, but he's kind of crafted the ur-text of silly modern international intrigue action movies that not only hops around the globe but also travels back and forth in time. Tenet is at its best when you can just let go of logic and vibe with people and cars going backwards in slo-mo.

Argo An interesting movie based on true events. Alan Arkin shines.

I've posted it before, but I love the Nicholas Brothers in one of the greatest on screen tap dancing scenes in Hollywood history:

Those splits were unbelievably amazing. How they were able to do them and walk off the stage unassisted is beyond belief.

For Clint's birthday I rewatched Unforgiven, and boy does it hold up and becomes both more bleak and more powerful as I get older. What a masterpiece.

"The Duck of Death."

"Uhh... th... that's Duke. The Duke of Death."

"Duck, I says."

Clint started his career playing a cowboy, Rowdy Yates, on Rawhide. I like all of his cowboy and Dirty Harry movies.

I'm trolling people and saying it was a better movie than Joker. There are some people who really love that movie (Joker).

I haven't seen Cruella, but I assume it's as terrible as Joker.

jodeke, these are actors without stunt doubles doing incredible physical work as dancers:

Imagine the talent?! The commitment?! The work ethic!! The bravery!!

It’s better than Joker. Joker too itself way too seriously, Cruella embraces the ridiculousness and leans into it. And while Joaquin is an incredible actor he’s not nearly as fun to watch as Emma Stone.

I couldnt finish the first one, got bored of the premise in the first 20 minutes or so. I'll give it another shot.

Kingdom of Heaven is an exquisite historical epic. Just watched the director's cut, and while I always liked it (I'd only seen the theatrical version), I now consider one of Ridley Scott's best work. It's a balanced yet nuanced meditation on morality, philosophy and theology driven by intricate and interesting characters. While the theatrical version is a beautifully shot film with great battle sequences, the extended version offers all of the above plus a much more complete story.

I just re-watched that other movie where Hackman played the same guy. The Quick And The Dead. Love that one, especially the duel between him and Lance Henriksen. He played that same guy swimmingly for his entire career. He was born in San Bernardino, btw. Never woulda guessed that, but that's what wiki says. Not too many good things ever come out of there. He's 91 now. Hope he's still got the faculties.
