What were the reasons for your choice of vaccine?

I chose the J&J vaccine due to it being a more traditional adrenovirus vaccine supported by over a century of use of it's basic type as opposed to the very promising mRNA type of vaccine with no real world extensive experience to judge it's long term effects on immune system response.

While I believe in the potential of mRNA vaccines, I preferred not to be part of the live guinea pig population if there was an alternative available. Contrary to somewhat popular belief, the mRNA vaccines didn't just appear over 5he last year, but have been in active development since the 1st respitory Coronavirus event in the Middle East back in 2002. The basic vaccines have been sitting on the shelf waiting for an opportunity to live test since 2014, so they aren't some voodoo that was just rushed to market. The science behind them seems quite sound, and absent an alternative, I'd have been willing to let my self be guinea pigged. My only real pause would have been future effects on immune system response? Nobody knows at this juncture, but within about a decade, we'll clearly have a wealth of more real world knowledge.

Moderna because it was my only choice via my employer, but I would've gone with any of them. I would've gone with a mypillow.com vaccine if the FDA put it out for emergency use.

Yeah I went with the first available which happened to be J&J. I may have waited for it though since it was a 1 and done vs the other 2 shot vaccines. Interesting to learn some of the science about it though, thank you for sharing that Aussiesuede

If that was your reason for choosing the J&J vaccine, that it is more "traditional" or much better studied somehow, you've been misinformed. The traditional vaccines against things like measles, mumps and flu that we have all gotten are generally attenuated or dead virus of the disease itself.

Adenovirus vector vaccines, which J&J is, have not been in use or studied for "over a century". Adenoviruses have been known for several decades as causing some relatively minor human diseases but adenovirus as a vector (to deliver a protein as a vaccine) is much more recent.

In the late 1990's adenovirus vectors were attempted for gene therapy, didn't work very well, but it was observed they were immunogenic (triggered the immune system) and the idea that they could be used for vaccines was developed. In the last 20 years or so a lot of preclinical (in the lab or animals) work has been done with them and some clinical (in humans) but there are really only (I believe) 1 or 2 approved for human use other than the covid one and those are very recent. Early on there were issues with using adenovirus that normally infect humans because many of us have antibodies against them, we've been exposed to them before, and those antibodies neutralized the vaccines in some people and that affected the trial results. Many now are made with viruses that normally infect other animals, to get around that, I believe J&J is a primate virus.

Study into mRNA-based vaccines (like the Moderna and Pfizer) has been going on for couple decades also. Much of that work was in how to deliver it and keep it from degrading before it got into the cells (mRNA is fragile) Honestly, vaccine research overall hasn't been the hottest area until this latest pandemic. Companies were looking into vaccines against other "emerging diseases" like Zika and Ebola and/or ones with no good vaccines yet, like HIV.

The science behind both types are solid from what I know but they are both relatively new in terms of actually being used in humans. We don't have decades of data in millions of people for either type of vaccine yet.

I got Pfizer because it was the first available to me but would have taken the J&J as well. Both are efficacious. Different advantages/disadvantages for each but all three (J&J, Moderna, Pfizer) all work well.

After months of intense research I REALLY wanted the J&J as well, but ended up getting the Pfizer as that was what my local CVS was using...!

Pfizer. It had the best proven results (the first 1.8M people that took in Israel) at the time I took the first jab.

The most logical and safest choice, for one's self and others.

Wanted Pfizer due to the 3 week instead of 4 week wait between shots. That was the 1st available so I got what I wanted.

Well at least the mRNA vaccines don’t seem to cause clotting issues.

I got all three: helluva sleep after the second & third vaccines, 22 & 31 hours, respectively.

I got Pfizer, but I would taken any of the three. Pfizer was the first available to me.

My wife wanted Pfizer. So I got Moderna. We looked at how we reacted and kids ended up getting Pfizer. Since, I had the Covid arm reaction with the rash, I'm recommending for my close relatives to try one of the others. Really wasn't a big deal, though.

I would also have tried any of the three. We know the science of the vaccines better than we know the long-term effects of getting Covid. I feel like chances are, you are going to get one or the other -- vaccinated or Covid.

Yep. When my partner at work from last year had "the worst flu of his life" and it lasted 4-6 weeks, before he left the job and started working elsewhere, that wasn't just some ordinary flu.

Work couldn't protect me either, so I had to leave. Terrible with precautions and enforcement.
