Quote:
There is optimism within the Lakers that they will get strong consideration from Andre Drummond if Drummond ultimately leaves the Cavaliers via buyout, league sources say.

Cleveland’s preference, of course, remains trading Drummond elsewhere before the March 25 trade deadline.

But then Nets will swoop in and offer:

1. guaranteed starting job
2. 5.9m instead of Lakers minimum prorated deal.

I'd rather he not be available than available, which means he will likely be a Net.

Sounds like a leak to get a trade offer from the Nets, Clippers or Knicks.

My guess is he ends up on the Knicks and the Nets bring in JaVale.

I'm still shocked Blake gave up 13m+ and took the prorated minimum. That was not expected.

Drummond will have to give up money too so I gather he would want to recoup some with the 5.9m the Nets can offer. Sheesh.

And a near guaranteed trip to the Finals. I'm sure Drummond would love to stay in the East

Yeah I didn't want Blake nor did I think he added much to the Nets, but I was hoping he'd take some of their buying power away in the process.

Nope

I do hope a team like Knicks get Drummond.

Nets would be a cheat code with their 3 guys, Harris, Drummond, etc.

Isn't the MLE deal also pro-rated, meaning it would be closer to $3 million.

Stein has gotten really pathetic. "If" the Cavs buy out Drummond (which probably won't happen) there is "optimism" (based on what?) that Drummond will give "strong consideration" (whatever that means) to the Lakers. So basically, Stein is reporting nothing.

P.S. This really belongs in the General Free Agency/Trade thread. If someone starts a thread over every clickbait rumor that comes along in the next couple weeks, this Forum is going to be unreadable.

Agree. Writers, gossip columnist have historically used lakers name to get clicks without any substance.

Maybe. But they also have the Dinwiddie injury exception of 5.9m. Regardless, more than what the Lakers could offer.

Shouldn't this be in the free agency forum. Not needed as a new subject. Nothing BREAKING NEWS here.

So they're hoping that Drummond pulls a Josh Smith?

If Drummond came to the Lakers, he'd have a guaranteed starting role. That wouldn't be an issue.

But in terms of the teams that can sign him, the Clippers cannot, apparently.

So it's between the Nets, the Celtics, the Lakers and the Heat. Maybe Milwaukee too.

If the Nets get Drummond, that's a near guarantee for them to win the championship.

If *we* get Drummond, this will be the strongest Lakers team since the threepeat years.

Essentially

If the Lakers get Drummond, it's a wrap.
If the Nets get Drummond, it's a wrap.
If the Celtics get Drummond, it's a challenge,
If the Bucks get Drummond, it's very interesting.
If the Heat gets Drummond, it's interesting.
If the Clippers get Drummond, it's a fantasy because they can't.

It's Detroit leaking news and using Lakers as leverage so that a team will trade with them instead of letting Drummer boy walk to LA.
