Rob also let the guy go that encompassed all of those things because he didn't want to give him a second year. While at the same time committing money to Javale McGee, and Lance Stephenson...

What Rob is looking for is cheap, hopefully productive one-year options to keep the space next offseason.

If Carmelo offers that, you can be sure that they will pursue him, regardless of what they're saying.

Let it go. If Randle really wanted to be a Laker and accepted the new role for himself this season he'd have taken the QO or a bigger 1 year deal. His agent is douche and steered him towards leaving.

We are not going after Melo.

Lakers made a mistake with Randle. They should have given KCP money to him and let him be our small ball center. The play of Hart made KCP redundant. It looks like Lakers is putting a lot of faith on Kuz though. I would not mind having Melo but for limited role. Melo should go play for the Rockets, he is much better fit over there.

When Hart, or another Laker, proves capable of shooting coming off screens then KCP will be redundant (although I don't know what's so upsetting about having more than one of these shooters).

I think he is coming to LA. I’m sure he and LeBron talked about playing together; reason Lakers didn’t use the rest of cap money.

We have $400k left on our cap. What we have is the Room Exception right now. Carmelo Anthony won't be with us with the way he envisions himself (starter). We shouldn't want him either.

Bobby Marks
ESPN

Oklahoma City was able to accomplish two things by trading Carmelo Anthony to Atlanta, improve the roster while saving $73M this season.

The Thunder will now see their projected luxury tax bill drop from $150M to $88.8M, a savings of $62M. In addition, Oklahoma City will save an additional $11M in salary savings with the Dennis Schroder $15.5M contract and the $1.5M cap hit of Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot.

The Thunder now have a payroll of $148.7M, down from $159.6M. The roster in Oklahoma City also improves with the addition Schroder, a starting quality point guard that will back up Russell Westbrook and adding a young wing in Luwawu-Cabarrot.

Instead of having the $9.3M dead cap hit with Anthony on the stretch provision, Oklahoma City essentially is paying $5M for the next three seasons for a 24 year-old point guard who has started 161 games in five seasons.

Not a huge fan of DS, feel like he's inefficient, but man, the Western Conference is stacked from top to bottom.

Can the Rockets even afford Melo? Or is it a D-Wade buyout type situation?

Josh Smith situation.

He's making bank from a buyout so he signs with a contender for the minimum.

KCP was part of the Lebron package.

Also of note: The Thunder created a $10.8 million trade exception in the Carmelo Anthony deal.

What a great trade for OKC. They traded a player who no one wants for a starter caliber player while also saves money.
