Sources: Thunder, Carmelo Anthony to part ways this summer

Quote:
Anthony, a 10-time NBA All-Star and three-time Olympic gold medalist, would be pursued vigorously among contenders on the free-agent market. The Houston Rockets, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers are among multiple teams expected to express interest in Anthony, sources tell ESPN.

No thanks. I'll take Noah or Lopez and call it a day.

In a Deng for Carmelo I think everyone will agree that is best for the franchise.

But if this is about signing him with $5m cap space then no.

But if this is about signing him with vet exception then probably not

Well people have been complaining about the lack of shooting on the team, so now you can get your wish. Bron has always wanted to play with Melo since they are best friends. Ideally wouldn't mind if he came off the bench. Luke & Maginka were able to convince Isiah Thomas to come off the bench with no problem after his agent threw a fit of IT not coming off the bench once he got traded to the Lakers. Convincing Melo to come off the bench would be Luke's biggest challenge to date. Worse case, he starts and takes shots away from BI & Kuz and continues to play like OKC Melo.

If we can do Deng and a couple of second rounders in a trade, I’d do it. If he signs for the vet minimum of 1.7m, I can go either way. We already have Lebron and Kuz at the stretch 4. They’re both friends with Melo, but it does present a log jam at that position. Ultimately, I would say pass, but if Lebron wants him then that’s a different story.

Yes, because we need a pure gunner/shooter (he can be either). I'd also try to get J. Crawford. We need that Nick Young type that can get us those timely 3's, and nothing else.

I think we all agree that a Deng for Carmelo swap would be phenomenal. However, even at a minimum salary, you can do a lot worse than Carmelo Anthony coming off the bench for you. (Assuming he's willing).

If he's cheap, for one year only, and can be cut if he causes problems, why not see what he can do.

If he's willing to be a spot-up shooter and a 4th/5th/6th option it'd probably be worth it.

Assuming it's Deng for Melo, then it's obviously a no brainer, yes. Benefits both clubs. OKC pays way less in luxury tax and LAL gets an expiring contract for more cap room next summer. It doesn't require us to give up any assets to dump Deng either. Plus, it's not like Deng is really a part of the roster at this point, so I don't see the harm in adding a scorer (assuming he's coming off the bench).

1. I'd rather us focus on getting a starting center (Lopez, please) instead of a no-defense-playing, ball-stopping, shot-hungry PF who thinks he's still a 1st option.

2. Kuz needs all the minutes he can handle.

3. See points 1 and 2

do not think that is true...with Deng, they would still be in tax next season....so they would be paying repeater tax on 18 M this year....then again next year....just stretching him is probably much cheaper.

A trade is very unlikely they. He has a no-trade clause. They will probably buy him out or stretch him.

ah I would trade deng for him, then buy him out. to bad about that no trade clause, would have been such an easy way for us to open up 48 million in cap space next off season.

I think the speculation is that OKC will stretch Melo and Lakers will them make him an offer, potentially.

Ingram would get his starting role and his 30 plus minutes regardless but man I think Kuzma would have a real problem with Melo coming in and taking his shots off the bench.

Kuzma has been putting in work, he needs a lions share of our bench shots and minutes.

Way too lazy to do the math, but it would seem that you’re right ... I think.

If Anthony refused to give them a buyout discount however ...

How much money would OKC safe by trimming ten million in salary this year?

If it’s more than the eighteen million they’d have to spend on Deng next year, it may be worth to it for them.
