It was a really good draft. These past two drafts have been big successes for the Lakers. _________________ I want to say something about Dwayne Wade, but I fear I may get called for a foul.

I rated it a B-, Mitch had one of his better drafts it would appear.
Of course, they haven't played a game yet.
I like the pickups of Farmar and Evans a lot. And the other kid may have a lot to prove, he was a terrific player in college. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

seems like almost every team had a decent / above average draft. _________________ Pain is temporary, at the end of pain is success... |

ESPN gave us a B-. It wasn't a bad draft, people here are just looking for reasons to pounce Kupchak. What else is new. =P |

I think most "analyst" types had Farmar slotted to go roughly where he
did to us (actually probably mildly higher, but nothing drastic).
Given that, and the "local product" factor, most guys out there with the
pen and push to write such articles will see the Farmar selection as an
above average pick (but not a full-out steal).
As Mejia put it from Sportsline, getting a guy like Evans for the 51st
overall pick is "unheard of."
That trade is virtually as big an addition as Farmar, and the combination
of the two does, IMO, make this an above average draft.
Not sure I'd give it an A, but a "B" grade is certainly fair IMO.
(I've discussed it in more detail elsewhere on LG, but I think we could
have made the same offer, in fact a bit better, to pick up the #21 from
Phoenix to nab either Rondo or Marcus Williams, which I'll admit adds
to my unwillingness to grade an A or B+ here). |

With the depth of the next draft, it might be a good idea to hold onto that pick. I think we could do better than Rondo (don't like him) or Williams in 2007. Plus, I have a funny feeling that Mitch has a trade lined up - bigger fish to fry than getting Williams. If we sign Cassell for 2 years, that keeps the 2008 plan alive, gives us depth at the 1, a vet starter who will thrive alongside Kobe, and allows Farmar 2 years to mature, learn the tri, and improve his turnovers and jumper.
And Evans was about as good as you could get for that 2nd rounder. He wouldn't play much with the depth at guard that Detroit has, but he is a man on D - he just might see some time next year. |

Farmar, Pinnock, and Mo Evans for Samb and a 2nd rounder next year. That's pretty good as far as I'm concerned. I know some people here were expecting the Lakers to utilize the little-known NBA time machine draft clause and trade half the squad to the 2002 Cavaliers for LeBron's draft rights, but it didn't work out. _________________ Game recognize game, Granddad. - Riley Freeman, The Boondocks |

I agree with fox.
"L.A. Lakers
They picked up a superb asset in Jordan Farmar, who will likely need at least two years to really blossom. If the Lakers wait patiently, they have their point guard for the next decade. Then L.A. picked up Maurice Evans for an unheard of second-rounder. Great draft. Grade: A" |

Draft grades at this point are not very useful. One website even graded Amare a "D" right after he was drafted. We haven't seen any of these guys play against real competition. The Lakers needed a small guard and players who might replace Profit. Evans and Pinnock should be competing along with with Wafer and Green to see who makes the team. _________________ "Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that.
