Lakers point guard Steve Nash will play tonight against Golden State, a person with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss his situation. Nash has been out since Oct. 31 with a left leg injury. The Lakers have struggled this season without Nash directing new coach Mike D'Antoni's

Steve Nash will play Saturday night against Golden State, his first game since Oct. 31.

The Lakers point guard missed 24 games because of a small fracture in his lower left leg.

With Steve Blake also sidelined by injury, the Lakers have had to go with Chris Duhon and Darius Morris as their point guards.

Blake has started shooting after practices but is still out at least four more weeks as he rehabilitates after abdominal surgery.

OAKLAND - In what will mark his first game in nearly two months, Lakers guard Steve Nash will play tonight against Golden State, according to a league source.

Nash has missed the past 24 games because of a small fracture in his lower left leg suffered Oct. 31 when he collided with Portland guard Damian Lillard.

The Lakers have classified Nash as a game-time decision and didn't have morning shootaround today. Nash had also said it was a "low chance" he'd play against the Warriors and instead return Christmas Day when the Lakers host the New York Knicks at Staples Center. But a league source indicated Nash feeling little additional pain after going through five-on-five contact drills for the past two days.

Warriors ready for showdown

OAKLAND -- The Warriors are now set for the biggest game of the season thus far. The Los Angeles Lakers are coming to town.
But before tonight's showdown, the Warriors had to handle business against the Charlotte Bobcats. They did.
Despite struggles putting away bad teams this season, Golden State handed Charlotte its 14th straight loss, 115-100 Friday night at Oracle Arena.
The Warriors got a triple-double from forward David Lee and a career-higheight 3-pointers from point guard Stephen Curry to rebound from Wednesday's disappointing loss at Sacramento.
"The Bobcats game matters the same in the standings," Lee said after totaling 23 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds in 34 minutes. "All of these games matter. Now that this game's over, we're pumped to have the challenge (Saturday) night, having (the Lakers) come in here.
"No matter who plays for them, we're really, really excited. We know its going to be a good challenge for us, but we're ready to defend our home court."
The Warriors are now 7-1 after a loss and have won seven of their last eight at Oracle. But today's highly anticipated affair, at least among Golden State fans, carries added importance. Not only is it against the Warriors' longtime bully, but it's also the first in 11 straight games against teams expected to contend for a playoff spot: the Lakers, Utah, Philadelphia, Boston, the Clippers (twice), Memphis, Portland, Denver, Miami and San Antonio.

Let There Be Peace On Earth and Bench

HANG TIME, Texas — Pau Gasol and Mike D’Antoni had a nice lunch, which concluded with a return to the starting lineup for the Spaniard as dessert.
So after swallowing three straight sugarplum wins over Washington, Philly and Charlotte, everyone is fat and jolly again in Laker Land as they wait for Steve Nash to fall back down their chimney on Christmas.
Except, uh, has anyone checked in with naughty-or-nice Metta World Peace?
Turns out our friend Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times did:
But what does World Peace want? It’s always entertaining to find out.
He initially said the right things about the demotion, claiming he would accept it for the betterment of the team but not wanting to go too in-depth about it, quickly touting his new music single (“Represented,” for those who care) and reminding reporters it was available now on iTunes.
On Friday, however, World Peace appeared less open to the concept when asked if he was still fine with coming off the bench.
“I’m not answering that at all. Absolutely not. I have no comment,” said World Peace, the Lakers’ second-best player in a surprising number of games this season.

The shoe's on the other foot, as Golden State tries to maintain playoff position and Los Angeles tries to climb back into contention.

Warriors (18-9) vs Lakers(12-14)

Remember that blockbuster trade, the one where Orlando got screwed and the Lakers added another all-star? Kinda funny how it looks at this point in the season, with Denver being the only team over .500 of the four participating teams. And Orlando and the Lakers have identical records.

The Warriors, though, weren't heavy players in the trade market or free agency - barely players at all. And somehow managed to pick up Carl Landry and Jarrett Jack, both of whom are having near-career years off the bench. And somehow have two 20 ppg scorers in David Lee and Stephen Curry. And somehow are 18-9, five and a half games ahead of the Lakers.
