Glad to be of service. I just put them into Excel real quick, so my numbers might be a bit rough.

Total extension would be written for $90,967,153, making total income (including current deal) $138,707,778. Most likely amended downward due to max salary to $86,344,353, total $134,184,978...

...As I said, they amend the extension downward, if necessary, if the salary in the first year turns out to be above the max. Right now the player's maximum is 105% of his previous salary. But his extension would start in 2011-12, which will likely be the first year under the next CBA. How do we know what the max salary will be in the next CBA? If they do something radical, like eliminate the 105% allowance, Kobe's in big trouble.

Larry - Don't you think it is more likely they adjust the CBA to reduce what 'role' players earn and leave Superstar compensation alone (or perhaps even increase it)?

Superstars sell tickets, jerseys, tv deals. The NBA shouldn't limit its options to keep them from European teams. Alternatively, the league probably isn't worried about loosing a Turkoglu or two. In some ways it's healthy to build up the market in Europe as long as the marquee guys stay stateside.

The owners would be better off while the "Players" would be receiving less.

The rules will be arrived at through collective bargaining. The owners will want whatever works best to keep expenses down. The players get one vote each in any proposed deal. If it's a choice between a system that pays the superstars less and one that pays the rank and file players less, I think the superstars will be outvoted.

If we're going to ask Odom to take a pay cut and Ariza to not ask for too much money, Kobe should take a pay cut as well to lock in the other two guys (not to mention Shannon Brown). He's got more money than both of those guys...

Boy, Lamar should have a pay cut because he hasn't earned his 14mil, Ariza may some wide open shots in the playoffs and he is suppose to get paid?
Funny how the un-educated can ask Kobe of all people to take a pay cut, I would say at least 80% of the people going to Staples are there to watch Kobe and the Lakers with emphasize on KOBE, this is also a player that plays 100% regardless where Lamar can disappear for ten to twenty games a year. How many players would be willing to risk further injury by holding off surgery for two seasons to try to win a championship? If there is one team in the league that makes money, it would be the Lakers, and the fans are there to watch kobe, so he should not give a dime back just so Buss can pay less luxury tax, Lakers can more then afford it when they charge a couple thousand a game for courtside seats.
Afterall, the Lakers could be in better shape if Kupcake did not give the full mid-level exemption to Walton, Radmanovic and signed Vuacic for 5mil a year.

Does anybody have any information regarding whether or not Kobe will have finger surgery this offseason?
